I can report I had crashing issues when playing the game in DX12. I tried disabling Riva Tuner and adjusting my overclock. The same behavior occurred where the game would CTD in 5 minutes or less without any error messages.
My Build:
RTX 3090
i9 9900k 5ghz
32gb G.Skill 3200mhz
Asus Z370 ROG Strix F
1000W EVGA 80 Plus Gold
I also tried rolling back Nvidia drivers to the previous version from the latest release and that did not fix the crashing either. Whad DID fix it was switching from DX12 to DX11. In DX11 it ran for 30+ minutes without issue with max graphics settings, my gpu overclock settings, and Riva Tuner on. Before this patch I was able to play with all the same settings and hardware with no issue in DX12 and I'd prefer to play in DX12 as it seems to play smoother for me.
I keep getting these every so often and get no error message at all, just throws me back to the desktop. Of note this last time it happened, I made a note of the time it happened and went to Event Viewer to see if any event happened at that exact time.
The only thing that I could see that was at that exact time was in the "System" tab and something called FilterManager and when looking within the event, it say EasyAntiCheatSys. It does say it unloaded successfully, but perhaps this is causing the crashes. But could have been a coincidence though.
Insane amounts of crashing. Judging by the amount of people having this issue, it's something to do with your game. You dun borked it up.
Just about every single time I load in, I ctd, no crash report, nothing. Most of the time if PVE - I restart and have a normal chance of crashing (<5%/hour) ... (this game does normally have stability issues) ...
But in the DZ - I crash and crash and crash. I crashed twice trying to join a friend, about 2-3 minutes in, mid fight in the DZ, shooting an NPC point blank with a scorpio, lobbing heals in the middle of a park... ctd. I even reset my PC, and crashed again after joining, about 2 minutes in.
This SHOULD be a priority, it should have BEEN a priority, this is unacceptable - that we pay for your game and you leave us like this. Fanboys and do gooders can't deny when a game, a single game is your business Massive to leave it like this - for this LONG, Weeks, over a month - is not acceptable. How many people crash and HAVEN'T wrote to you? ... Even when I enjoy this game and look past the twisted, frustrating, disappointing past - I'm met with issues like this - that flat out would not happen if Massive TESTED their game CARED about their game and GAVE - even a little reverence to the people who buy it.
anyway shame on you waiting for a fix please thanks
tonight i was streaming on twitch and a minute or two.... it crashed. i know my pc can run the game. i9 9900k @3.60 cpu 32gb ram, and an rtx2080 super. it happened abt a week ago. not sure whats going on. i dont have the settings all maxed out and i play at 1080p. it would work fine when im off stream.
apparent when i was having the CTD experience.
i never use geforce experience/i always do a driver only install ( so there no overlay to crash )
i wasnt using discord voice chat ( web or client- so no overlay to crash - of which there has been an issue since discord was founded )
absolutely no xbox services/applications running ( no xbox bars )
i have never used dx12 ( so it wasnt that that caused my errorless ctd )
i dont use multiple monitors
i wasnt using OBS at the time of crashes
no Adobe services was ever running on my machine
i WAS using connect overlay
Valhalla was also an errorless CTD ( are you sure its the ONLY game that crashes? )
a few extra notes:
i would never remove/reinstall the SAME graphics drivers that were possibly causing a problem!
i ALWAYS keep a backup of KNOWN GOOD DRIVERS that worked for me. that way, i know in my tiny mind that those are 100% working and when problems like this arise i can easily revert.
i always stop any services that arnt necessary for the machine to work appropriately
something that may or may not help your situation but is good info
in the cortana search bar type "MSCONFIG" and that bring up the configuration applet, click the SERVICES tab, check the box at the bottom that says "Hide all microsoft services" now, if its not essential to the running of the machine, uncheck it, and restart the computer.
at the time of writing, my checkboxes are only 3.
1)battleeyeservice
2)easyanticheat
3)nvidia display container
if i can interest you in a further software that help remove window bloat and stop extra communication traffic here and there; ( removal of all xbox bloat )
https://www.oo-software.com/en/ooappbuster
https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10
both apps are partnered with the operating system manufaturer( obviously use at your own peril )
i hope this info is of some use to someone.
I crash mainly in inventory / browsing vendors. The game just hangs the entire system up, can't even open the task manager to end process. Happens on DX12 only, but DX11 offers severely lower performance for my card , somehow. running a Ryzen 5 3600 , 16 gb ram and a 6800 XT videocard.
The DX12 hang is real, but it offers little clue as to what causes it. I run without the overlay, all drivers up to date. Problem is the game just hangs for me, no error message, nothing. the only course is a full reset of the system.
I can't even get to the game before it CTD.
I have had the game in the past and my computer was within the required specs, and it constantly crashed. Made a complaint on here about it and got totally crapped on. So today I have a new computer that cost me nearly $5000 and it far exceeds the requirements needed and still constantly crashing. So seems nothing has changed other than everyone else had the same issue now.
The DirectX 12 hangs/freezes are indeed brutal, and it is true that they happen more often when browsing the inventory. They are different to the CTDs though. For the DirectX 12 crashes I play in Windowed-Fullscreen so I can at least close the game via Task Manager when it crashes - something you cannot do when playing in Fullscreen.
It's the inconstancy that gets me. One day I can play for hours without a problem, then the next day it's constant crashing. It can crash in the middle of a mission, looking at the map or when you're simply sorting through your inventory. There is no apparent trigger for it. Just BAM - game closes and I'm back at my desktop.
All my drivers are up to date as is Windows. I don't use any overlays and the only other application running is my iCue software that controls my mouse and keyboard (and the game crashes the same with or without that running). DX11 is worse than DX12, the game is basically unplayable if I choose DX11.
hi, i can kill via task manager when the game freeze completely, playing in fullscreen dx12.
After reinstalling the game and ubiconnect i was able to play for 3 days without a single crash, yesterday evening (after 5mn of playing time), the game close, this morning, rescue mission (5 mn also), renegat in the place, the game close again. Like Nifol say, it's very weird...
You're right. if there was no difference in playing DX11 and 12, i'd go with 11. if that fixes the crashes.. gladly. BUT that's not the case. on my 6800 XT , DX11 performance is a lot worse. DX12 is butter smooth, but dx11 is a stutterfest with hitching and framedrops while turning the camera. It just sucks out all the joy of playing. I have none of these issues on DX12. I'm open for UBI to remove DX12 from the game alltogether, but then I would like a fully functional and equally performing DX11 function instead.
So we have to wait a year before you guys can fix this ok i got it uninstall the game guys it will take a year before they can fix the game...See you then agents...
I had a CTD this morning while clearing a control point. Last night, 2 of our clan members had CTD during the final boss in the Iron Horse raid which really sucks because we had to wipe to get them back in since they can't join while we are in combat. Since 12.1, every single person in our clan that I have spoken to has had this happen so it isn't "rare" and a small percentage of the population. If you haven't had it happen then congrats but I believe that you are in the minority.
I work for a massive software company and have been in software development for my entire career so I understand that errors are made, bugs are created and problems occur. What is really important is how a company responds to these situations. In the world of software development, I would classify this as a Severity 0 bug and if it were my team of developers I would stop all other activity, create a war room and work tirelessly until the bug was found and fixed. This may be happening at Massive and if it is I wish you the best of luck but if it is not then I, and many others are going to be VERY disappointed. It would be great if there were more communication from the Massive team on what is going on. Are you taking this serious? Are people working to find and fix the issue? What is the ETA of a fix?
Have you any further updates on this issue please? Thank you
Probably find it is a piece of code for memory usage so poorly written it should have remained a thought. The last time I complained about this I had to send in endless files to Ubi and then my system config got blamed. Hows this, my system spec may be too high. PMSL. Yip, too potent.
Then I was told the great lie of, its Windows 10. "Just reinstall W10, and see if that helps."
On a lighter note, lets hope they fix this, I crash around 2-4 times during a game session.
Hi Forum Admin & Moderators,
A quick look at your official Discord, in #unofficial-troublehooting, some of us managed to fix the crash to desktop issue by uninstalling 2-3 Windows Updates. Can't recall what's the KB number, you can search through in the Discord server.
After further investigation, 1 or 2 KB did affects some computer peripherals (I had forgotten what's the KB number). I had this auto-updated by Windows at the last week of February, on the same day when I played the game, I got 3-5 times crashes within 10-15 minutes.
I don't deny there are still freezes and they are frustrating, especially when you're face tanking enemies, but at least it's no longer like within 10-15 minutes got 3-5 times crashes.
I still experience the game just suddenly freeze, and I have to force close the game via Task Manager.
Well, just a little bit of information that may or may not help you.
Cheers,
Long Live RNG
Hi,
@Ubi-Lucipus
Can we please have an update on ubisoft's progress with tracking down the crash issue please.
I can only speak for myself but I am getting mighty tired of at least 3 crashes before a stable client is achieved each time I want to play.
How can this issue be considered "top priority" by the devs, yet nothing is being done for weeks?!
exactly, thank you
at least give us an update on how much would it take to fix the game
i had to search for hours if any solution or a dev talk is out
game companies now days needs communication lessons
It's been 31 DAYS!
31 Days without Streaming/Gaming with my Division 2 Community!
Can't Stream cause it crashs no matter what when OBS is running.
Can't game with my Community cause of crashes every 5 minutes without OBS running.
My Division 2 Community is dying cause of this!
So when do we get a update / ETA for a fix?
Or is it time to move on and ditch the Game?
I hope not, cause i still love the Game and always supported it, even with all the Bugs and bad Player numbers we had recently!
Yours Sincerly,
Otter
It worked fine last month when I finished the last manhunt. Since then one new driver and CtD within a few minutes (DX12 not tried DX11). I'm assuming it's a driver error because nothing else has changed on my end except nvidia driver.
My brother has no issues on DX11 with his PC (1080 and i7 4770) I have a 2080ti and i9 9900KS.
I noticed another thing that has changed with current TU, the game is taking ages to start up, getting the first Division 2 logo with the Easy Anti-Cheat logo in the left bottom corner, and after that goes away it take several minutes before it's entering the game and starts loading, this has not been an issue in the past, and my games is on my M.2 SSD and i have 32 GB of Memory and a Ryzen 9 3900X and a RTX 2080 Super, so my machine should be capable of booting this game up pretty fast under normal conditions.
Ubisoft don't seem that interested in doing anything about it. Created a support ticket explaining I'd been through the troubleshooting steps and sent them dxdiag and msinfo, they responded by telling me to go through the troubleshooting steps and send them the files again??!!?? They seem determined to stick to blaming user setups, but never had a problem with the game until the update. Doesn't seem a lot of point in sending them the files they asked for as they're obviously not reading the messages and are just sending out stock responses.
Definitely a DX12 issue. Fine in DX11 but crashes almost immediately in DX12. This has been an ongoing issue with the game since launch. That said it had been fine for quite a while but recent nvidia drivers seem to have broken DX12 in the game. Who knows if it'll be fixed because it wasn't for months before.
Division 2 frequently crashes to desktop without putting up the "do you want to send crash report" dialog.
* Usually within first 10 minutes of starting.
* If it goes longer it usually won't crash.
* Occasionally it will put up the "do you want to send crash report dialog".
* Occasionally it will fail to start at all, leaving a process stuck using 0% that has to be killed from the task manager.
* Crashes with both DX 11 and DX 12
These crashes are just on the edge of letting me continue to play the game: they happen frequently (every day), but almost always at the start of play and so once it is going I can usually get in a decent session.
They happen on both the laptop that I detail below, and on my desktop system that I don't have access to right now. to provide these details Desktop is also Intel/nVidia.
Legion 5 Laptop
Windows 10 Pro version 1909
i7-10750H
RTX 2060 GPU
Graphic Driver Version 452.56
Last Windows Update: KB4023057
Unusual Behaviors:
* The game keeps switching to Windowed mode. Sometimes the crashes seem related to switching between modes. I run in Full Screen mode, but I have seen crashes both in the Windowed mode, and in Full Screen after switching.
* Just an impression, but it seems to crash more often after I have tabbed between apps as it is loading, or when using triggering press-to-talk in discord with "Alt" key.
It's 3 days and I don't know what the hell you are still investigating. Its crashing a lot and countless crash results sent. Don't you have any SLA's to resolve the issue. Mine is crashing in Directx 11 also.
Same for me I usually crash pretty quick and it happens quite a lot UNTIL I do this...
Backup and delete the settings folder in the game's directory.
The default location for the folder is:
"%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Tom Clancy's The Division 2"
Backup and delete the entire folder. Then boot the game and it will create default settings, and for many players, has solved the crashing issue.
Stolen from a reddit thread and also it works for a few days then you have to repeat it. (Not sure If I can link the Reddit Thread or not)
so no solution or fix till now, really even give us a statement on the progress on solving this major problem
Ubisoft has been working on the code for higher resolutions for consoles between 12.0 and 12.1. May be they broke something for us PC players.
Crashes affect both nVidia and AMD. Based on that we can deduce that crashes have probably nothing to do with drivers.
So I tested the following.
I locked the FPS to 60Hz in both nVida settings and in-game settings. Haven't tested with higher frequencies.
I have a 2060, does not run nVidia experience, Uplay overlay is on, DX11 (DX12 always crashes for me in D2).
The result after 10+ hours of playing are no frame freeze and not a single crash.
BTW I used the same method in GR Wildlands to fix the frame freeze issue. They were very similar to the ones in D2.
I'd like to hear if these settings work for other players.
Understood. I've been very conservative with 60 fps. You may push it up but try to set the same value in the windows settings as in the game. Please report progress.

Hi all, been lurking this thread (and many others) for a while. Hopefully the maintenance tomorrow fixes the issues for me and everyone else!
My problem(s):
-DX11: Game stutters every 10-15 minutes. It's a pretty big stutter that lasts for 5(ish) seconds, and ruins immersion.
-DX12: Game runs great, but crashes every 1-3 hours
