Can this game be turned around?
Spoiler alert :it can't.
I've seen people making the comparison with R6 Siege, and how it took them almost two years to turn it around and that it's now a big success for Ubisoft.
I think what these people are missing on is the fact that R6 Siege was a good concept from the beginning, it took a lot of bug fixing and balancing to really make it what it is today, but it was a solid FPS multiplayer as a concept and still is.
Breakpoint is different. Let's say that all the reviewers who absolutely trashed the game at release (so bascially all the reviewers) said "OK, forget this game released in 2019, let's review it today", I don't think their review would be any more positive on the overall feeling of the game.
What I'm saying is incremental updates and bug fixing won't change the fact that the story is still absolutely horrendous, the drones are still there, the world is empty lifeless and boring, the modern bases are steile and not fun to fight, the cutscenes are pathetic, the faction missions are repetitive and pointless (when not bugged with 19 drones spawning), Wolves still look ridiculous, the sci-fi/futuristic feel is still present, it still doesn't feel like a Ghost Recon game and there's nothing spec-ops about it.
Everything I listed cannot be changed, it would involve creating a game from scratch. They won't remove drones, they're 90% of the story, they won't redo the main mission, the story or the cutscenes, the universe is still the same, etc....
So, I'm glad they're giving us a new gunsmith and resolving a few bugs here and there but I don't see reviewers going back on their critic of the game and suddenly considering it a solid game just because you can add a different scope on your weapon.
You'll still be fighting the same boring bases with the same ridiculous Wolves.
The inclusion of the AI Team will for sure add some replay value (and that is depending of their implementation, the bugs that will inevitably come with it, and the depth of customization/orders) but that won't be a game changer.
At this point I'd rather have them release all the content they already have available in one big update, spend a few more months on just bug fixing and finally put a fork in it and direct all these resources towards the next iteration of the game, that should be discussed in an empty room with white walls only covered by AI Bluefox's poster.
