I haven't got an answer per se, but I did contact CS as this was the second time this has happened to me. The response was for me to try some of their general troubleshooting tips--update to the latest iOS and game version, close the game and restart it, shut down and reboot device, delete and re-install the game. I have tried all of these w/o success. The last suggestion CS had was to try to load MC via a different wi-fi or via cellular. Still no fix tho'...
