I think the ME is pretty cool, I just don't have the patience or motivation to put in the time to actually make anything with it. All the games you used as examples of titles with both SP and MP where the audiences are not so split are games where the 2 modes are of the same quality level (well, with the exception of DOOM 2016, which had garbage MP that no one really cared for for any significant amount of time to my knowledge) whereas FC's MP is undeniably of a lower quality than it's SP component, there is just a portion of the community more willing to tolerate a frankly pretty crappy MP mode due the the allure of the map editor. If FC didn't have a ME, the MP would be largely ignored I think, and honestly even with it it has a pretty low level of engagement, it's just that the people who are into it are really into it because it really is something no other game has, especially in the console space. Halo's Forge is the closest thing, but ask most of the really dedicated FC mappers and they'll say it doesn't even compare.
Halo, CoD, Battlefield, Gears, all those games are popular really more for the MP than the SP, FC is just a series that sort of falls on the opposite side of that...
I really missed weapon customization in ND and did not care for the enemy / weapon leveling situation. Might be my least favorite FC game....
