The community film "Faith, Hope and Charity" is nearing completion. Around 20 people have worked on this, and, after more than a year in production, the light is at the end of the tunnel. Video production is finished, and the final sound FX and music are being created now. We're looking at a release date in early 2007. (And you said it would never get finished.) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common.../icon_wink.gif
The movie is going to be one hour long, and the file will be around 600MB. We have been wondering if a file that size is going to be too big for many internet connections to handle, so, we have a question for you guys.<form action="http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums" method="POST" name="VOTE">

As the first voter here, can I ask a question? Do you have a website for this movie now or when it's released? Anyway, I really look forward to this one, keep up the good work! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yes, we have a Web site. Click on the link to "Machinima Movie Theater" in my sig block to see it. People not working on the film can't gain access to the forums where we're discussing the film, though. They can only access the forums in the "Public Areas." We don't want to give away any surprises. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common.../icon_wink.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Even for DSL/Cable users split files would be a better idea, i think. The reason why its because even on those connections if a download is interrupted for some reason restarting part 1, 2 or 3 would be better than having to download all over again. On top of that even for mirror purposes or host bandwith interest the lesser downloads of such a big file, the better.
My 2 cents.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I would download the file as 1 file and there are programs out there that cover you incase of interruptions to your connection.
Keep up the excellent work guys.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

If you choose to split the file up the best thing you can do is to RAR it up and break it into whatever-MB sized chunks you're looking for. It's a very simple thing to do and I assure you whomever is the one that going to spend the hours rendering out the movie is going to thank you because he's not going to have to go through hell trying to separate the thing into equal-sized pcs so they can be zipped.
For instance, say there are 6 parts, each 100mb:
*Winzip* <--Pain in the culo
Someone has to download and extract 6 different parts separately
Then they have to watch the movie in 6 different pieces (Which just sucks)
And thennnnn...they need special
software to merge it all together if they want the movie as 1 file.
(WinRaR)
Someone downloads parts 1-6
Then they extract 1 part (WinRAR will pc.the rest of it together automatically)
The user gets to watch full length movie, no interruptions, and has a single 600mb file.
Lastly, the compression on winRaR is better than that of zip. The end size of the file will be a little smaller.
