From A Hardcore Fan - Still A Lot To Prove
Now don't get me wrong here, Saying i'm pumped for a new trials game would be an understatement... But with that being said, so far as a hardcore trials fan, the announcement of a new game has done basically nothing for me. Lets be real here, we already knew a new game was coming, and the recent announcements haven't really given us anything new. So before everyone jumps on me and starts telling me to be grateful etc, allow me to explain my reasoning.
First lets start with the elephant in the room; the release date. I cant really complain about the release date (despite being disappointed that it feels so far away) since there isn't really much that can be done about it if that's when the game will be complete, but i do want to point out that that release date will make it almost 5 years since the release of Fusion, and this will become relevant for something i'm going to talk about next.
So, moving on to what we have been given so far... and the answer to that would have to be not very much at all... The trailers have all be very pretty etc., but when the majority of the objects used to build the tracks are made out of objects that have been ripped directly from Fusion and Evo, it really doesn't impress me all that much... There is of coarse absolutely nothing wrong with reusing assets; i'm actually happy it was done. The issue i have with this is that as a core trials player, i have gained absolutely nothing from these trailers other than that there is a tandem couch coop mode than 90% of your persistent players probably wont ever even touch...
So all of this begs the question... With a gap of almost 5 years in your flagship franchise, what EXACTLY have you guys been working on... (it certainly wasn't new assets)? because honestly, the E3 coverage that i have seen so far shows me nothing that couldn't have been simply a small DLC for fusion (aka the tandem mode). Everything else looks like it could have been made in fusion or evo.
I understand that you don't need to sell trials to us core fans, so showing off pretty gameplate etc is probably beneficial for you guys. With that being said however, i have seen VERY little coverage of the possibilities that come from the track editor and track central. These are what you should be focusing on, because the editor and track central is the absolute number 1 thing in your game that has kept it alive for the past half a decade and even longer if you include evo. You guys have seriously missed a trick by underselling your number 1 asset in the game.
Naturally, i'm not saying that you guys have made no advancements in the game, as i imagine there have been many that we haven't seen yet. But that is also the problem.... we haven't seen them yet...
I hope that since the game has now finally been officially announced, you can start sharing some of the actual good improvements made with your core community, because i'm sure that's what most of the people here on the forums etc. want to see i would imagine.
Looking forward to checking out the Beta assuming i get selected. I just hope its not too far away. <3
