I don't mind the nihilistic ending, what I do mind is how unrealistic the events are that transpire during it. How does he magically brainwash all your companions right before the confrontation? Assuming he had control of nuclear weapons from his bunkers, how does he detonate them without launch codes? How is it that he survives the car crash when everyone else dies and takes you prisoner despite being handcuffed? It's the fact that he wins just for the sake of winning that bugs me.

This is eerily familiar, petition for a new ending!
The only "sane" thing in the game is nature and it fits the narrative you can destroy it along with anybody else.
This whole game is centered around "doublespeak" and if you are stuck in a dualistic vision I can well imagine the frustration of this end.
Aside for some (minor) plotholes, I would say it is brilliantly done albeit not a very uplifting story in toto for relativily speaking, younger adience.

Couldn't agree more
Did Ubisoft hire some of the writers from Mass Effect 3? You think Ubi would have learned that ****ing depressing endings that don't account for the number of hours a gamer has invested and just destroy everything (the "good" ending) don't go over well. The ending is damn depressing and a major let down.

where is the cap joseph and celebrate by all getting bat **** crazy drunk at the spread eagle ending?

Abysmal is a far cry away from from just how bad this 'not ending' is..
The entire premise of a shooter game, is to end the bad guys with weapons of choice. We got to sort of end the unholy trinity, albeit in soft and respectful way, even if you would have liked to damage them a fair bit more. It is after all what they deserved, and what the story intended.
To do this piss poor crap of an after thought ending, and NOT get the chance to 'end' the ***** who started it all is simply THE WORST excrement ever tossed over the writers floor mat. (note, not a table, as they have to be toddlers still crawling to have come up with this arrant nonsense!!!)

You're not realizing how deep the ending.
You are still proclaiming "bastard joseph" which makes me think you might not understand the ending fully. It seems everyone is missing it. It's not that you spent the whole game trying to kill him and now you can't, you spent the whole story blind with the sin of pride. And at the end Jospeh wasn't some crazy cult leader, he predicted the nuclear fall out, he didn't cause it, and he predicted it because he actually did know the word of god the whole time, he knew of the impending doom and he is actually not some crazy murderer cult leader, he's Jesus.
This was proven at the beggining of the game when he willingly lets you take him from his abode knowing damn well he had an entire cult around him that could have killed you and your fellow cop buddies but he said "god won't let you take me" than the helicopter goes down. He spoke of prophecies and each of the things he said happened in the order he said.
In general people are seeing him as a villain by nature, but the whole time he was right. You aren't meant to kill him. look deeper into the end. It's the best ending in far cry history.

Reading back at the replies though, you are all a bunch of whiney cry babies stamping your feet without even looking deeper into the ending at all. So I doubt my comment will register as to the importance of an actual thought provoking ending rather than just shoot with a shotgun, yay. But yeah the cliche, let's kill the bad guy ending is certainly not at all overdone in gaming.
The ending shows that the whole time you are trying to kill "crazy peggie Joseph" with your gang of rednecks but you never stopped to wonder if he was right. and he was. He knew the word of god, his bablings were factual and he tried to save you and you denied him because of the sin of pride. You can't kill him, never could, you couldn't arrest him. Because he wasn't a crazy drug distributing redneck cult leader. He was the actual prophet. Which is why his word and prophecy was spoken to fruition. The same reason you guys are raging her for wanting blood at the main ending is the reason the ending is so brilliant. You are too blinded by rage and pride to see the truth. And it really shocked me when I piece it together.

If he was such a prophet than why didn't he take his day in court? Why did he contaminate the water with bliss? Why did he allow his followers to kill? The ending was horrible and makes me think this is the last Far Cry. The game didn't give the player the option to become a cult member. The game only gave the option to defend yourself.
Might as well make a game about a cop chasing down a serial killer that kills random people, and, in the end, the serial killer gets the best of the cop and ties the cop up in a basement after a short speech to the cop, cut to end game credits.

Yeah, the endings are garbage. I hate when game companies opt for an “all for naught” ending. Since the theory that the ending sequence is a Bliss-induced hallucination/trip is plausible, I’m subscribing to it
