AW LS apparently loves the haze/fog like many devs out there...
... I prefer clear days and fog/haze only where appropriate but never as a default weather condition.

just my thought about this...
I prefer to use high mountain it gives a more realistic hazy feel. if you stand almost anywhere in real life and look at objects at different distances they look more and more faded as they go out. the normal clear setting just looks fake, it's like you said developers like to use the haze effects. call of duty is a great example of it, check below. the best way to get this look, which i call the cod look, use high mountain setting not hazy.

High mountains are above the haze and usually are clear - fake is every game in all/ every aspects - no need for reality at all! If other developer (CoD and the plague) do the same does not make it any more right.
