God Told Far Cry 5’s Villain The End of The World is Coming
Nothing we don't already know I guess - the info was HERE
Eden’s Gate will be a presence throughout the duration of Far Cry 5. Gamers will get to know who Joseph Seed is and what makes him tick. However, Ubisoft gave some new details into who exactly he is and what drives him. In an exclusive interview with We Write Things, Far Cry 5 lead writer Drew Holmes spoke about the mind behind Joseph Seed.
“Joseph Seed is a fanatical cult leader, who believes that God has told him the end of the world is coming. He views himself as a modern day Noah in a way. He’s is going about it for a thing he calls the collapse. We like to say, ‘what if you heard God talk to you and say the end of the world is coming. You have to prepare. You have to save as many people as you can. You’re the only person that hears this. You’re the only person that believes this. How far would you go?’ Holmes said.
There are real-life religious figures that embody the sorts of elements Holmes describes. One that comes to mind is Warren Jeffs, who is a cult leader from a small town in Utah. Showtime did a fascinating, yet disturbing documentary on Jeffs. A lot of what Holmes describes for Seed seems to fit with what Jeffs did and thought. The parallels between them are interesting.
“This is a guy that believes so much in what he is doing, he’s going further than anybody else would reasonably take it. For us, he is sending out a message of ‘I know everyone is afraid, I know we all feel the world is on the edge. We are reaching a tipping point, but if you believe in me and trust in me, if you put your faith in me, I will protect you.’
“That’s sort of brought in a lot of people to Eden’s Gate. As we reach the tinder box of the opening of the game, the screws start to tighten and they go from this standoff-ish, slightly militant cult to completely fanatical taking people, forcing them into the cult and preparing for the end of the world,” Holmes said.
