Feedback for Ubisoft on Far Cry Primal
I love gaming. To me they're like books where you get to play a role in the outcome and as such I always like to post feedback for the developer when I complete one of their games, here it is below - thanks for your attention.
---------------------
Pros:
* Great graphics now that the high resolution texture pack is released.
* Game's performance scales well and is fairly well optimized.
* Re-uses the same gameplay engine as previous FC3 & FC4 games, which in my opinion is a good thing overall. The takedown system is very good and if you're all right not having firearms, the weapons they give you in the game are good for the time period, still allowing you to sneak around for takedowns, but also use some ranged weapons as needed.
* Survivor Mode - while I haven't played it myself yet, I read through the release notes and it sounds like a lot of fun; especially the immersion factor. My next playthrough will absolutely be on Survivor Mode.
* I loved the character called "Urki" - a clear ancestor of Hurk from the current time period games; those mission were a lot of fun. Hope you guys do a FC5 and put Hurk in there as well.
* Night time - loved the feel of night - you could tell it was just a scary time to be a human back then with all the predators roaming in the wild and having limited weaponry.
* Taming / animals - I wasn't sure how I'd like this after watching the trailers, but this turned out to be pretty cool. Definitely enjoyed cruising around on my BloodFang Sabretooth.
Cons:
* Disappointing that the game released broken just like FC4...the mouse aiming was completely non functional for 1-2 months. I actually refunded the game and re-purchased it later for a significant discount as it was unplayable at release due to the mouse aiming bug.
* Released after the inferior console version. I would very much like to see Ubisoft try to focus more on the superior PC platform rather than older, slower hardware that's in the console systems. Design the game for PC gaming systems that are going to have far better hardware to run it at decent resolutions and framerates, and then simply port down to slower hardware in the consoles with lower texture, resolution, and other image quality settings.
System Specs / Performance information for reference:
ASrock 990FX Extreme4
AMD FX 8350 @ 4.1GHz
32GB DDR3 1600 - Corsair Dominator Series
(2) EVGA Hydro Copper Titan X - 2-Way SLI (1300MHz)
EVGA Supernova 1200P2 PSU
Windows 7 x64
I ran the game in 3840x2160 resolution with every setting at maximum and had a very smooth gameplay experience. In the event it's helpful to folks trying to gauge performance ahead of time, the game utilized up to 7.4GB of VRAM with these settings.
Very pretty world. SLI scaling seemed to work pretty well, so it seems they've got the SLI profile working properly at this point. I also had absolutely zero crashes throughout my playthrough over a ~15 day window of time, so Ubisoft did a nice job with stability on the game. All things considered, I would definitely recommend the game for around $30.
