I find that the 191, 214 gear is rarely better than the 182 gear, as a matter of fact I have a few 182 pieces that are way better than the 214 items. You give up a lot switching to the set gear, and in most situations its not worth it. There are times I will put on 4 pieces of Tactician for the bonus but as Electronics scales poorly and skills cap, not all that useful, except in certain situations. I think the gear score was done in haste, and the formula that calculates gear score, well honestly I don't think one exists, I just think it was done, as this is new and its X gear score, nevermind stats. Revamp/Create a formula on how the GS is calculated so gear is relevant. Gear progression is important, going back to an MMO EQ1/WOW/ect had Gear Progression, SWTOR did not, and was a huge failing of the game and the developers. Everyone just used PvP gear as it was better than anything you could get in PvE, therefor, no one did PvE content. That's one of the reasons, Blizzard put in the resilience stat for PvP gear, making PvP gear weak in PvE but strong in PvP. The same needs to be done here. It would also keep those who want to PvE out of the DZ and allow those who like the DZ to stay in the DZ.
Time Gate- The only time locked content in this game is the Incursion, which was exploited to the max. I have only done the incursion on the standard setting of Hard, and I believe you get a 214 item once a week and the rest 191, I am fine with this as you can farm the 191 all you want. When/if raids come out they should be limited to once a week.
Balance- Always tricky, but some things can be changed to prevent the over stacking of one of the 3 lines (Firearms, Stamina, Electronics). What they could do is on new gear, much like weapons they could put in place mechanics that force certain stats to be at a minimum to equip the item, much like talents on weapons. The weapon talents are so weak, most ignore them in favor of just stacking firearms to get more dps, Dropping Firearms to add Electonics for a 1-2% bonus, not going to happen. So say instead of just having a level check for items, 30 or DZ rank X, you had a level and stats Check. Level 30 +1800 Firearms, Stamina, Electronics or a combination, to equip weapons and or armor.
End Game Content - Since they are lacking in end game content at the moment, they could add additional ways to advance your character in the form of an AA system like some MMO's have used in the past. AA's are a grind, but it keeps their player base active and playing, which is after all the goal.
I enjoy this game, a lot, I think the mechanics are fun and engaging and I look forward to additional changes and content. That said, I believe some of the choices being made are poor and not well thought out, but I can do that as I am a player, not a developer. I can sit back and say, that was a poor choice this this and this would have been better, because I don't know what kinds of deadlines and crappy producers the development teams have to deal with on a daily basis. In the end, the developers do as they are told, because that's what they are paid to do. If the game fails, it will always be the developers fault, never the person who made the decision to implement X over Y. Its that way everywhere, the works have to work the long hours, do the work, and take all the blame.
