Holy ****, that's how I'm doing
As I posted a little while ago in a different thread, I realized I was not ready for the full Permadeath Challenge
I started off confident and slow, really pacing myself for what I knew would be a total nightmare of a game mode (in the best way possible).
While searching for Tensay, night fell upon me. I saw what I thought was a standing torch in the ground near his cave, so, with the intention of igniting my club for a light source, I sprinted towards it....
....and directly into 3 Udam huddled around a fire. Naturally, this scared the **** out all 4 of us and their cries made my testes retreat up into my throat, and, in an ill-advised attempt to flee the area, I ran directly off a cliff to my death.
So I sat there, stunned by my own cowardice and stupidity, and restarted a game with Second Chance enabled.....and I've been very content so far; I've just encountered Ull and destroyed the bone trees and I haven't died yet which is comforting. Mind you, I'll probably pull my hair out and try it again 4-10 times before getting it done.
Then I tackle the Permadeath Challenge...dusdus
Survival mode, Expert, Permadeath test
Hi Guys,
I've meditated a long time on starting the game on permadeath mode, then just decided to run on Survival mode, Expert diff, but with Permadeath off, for testing, how can I fare without dying.
The pace of my game is slowed down, I'm very cautious, Almost always crawling. I'm now at 5,5%, unlocked the white wolf, which is abig help, and have already 3 life.
My concerns about Permadeath is exactly that very reason, that you can die due to a bug too. In my previus game I died 2 times due to texture bugs.
Also there are some wide scale combat events, like where you need to protect 3 shrines against waves of enemies. Those could be very challenging this way.
Othervise this is my favourite game by far. Its an excellent work, gongrats for Ubi, and hoping for some more additions for it in the future.
My hints for those who are brave enough to test Perma Death:
-Its worth to moving in crouch mode, heading from bush-to -bush, or rock, whatever.
-If you ocassionally stops for a few seconds during crouching and look arond, you will hear the sounds of various things around you surprisingly many times (noises of Deer/Goat/Dholes/Talking Udam). I ambushed many times this way.
-Never run towards something you thought safe. Actually its not safe... :)
-Its worth to move with the club equipped for many reasons: if you get ambushed by a jaguar, you can immediatelly punch it and heal while it runs a circle. Also could light it up by fire to scare away some predators if needed.
-Avoid open field and cliff edges, those Eagles are annoying as hell. If I hear ther cries I used to stand in the open with a spear ready for thrust and focusing it, till it start to dive at me, the just release the spear thrust when its almost on my head... That it for the eagle...
-After start try to unlock Tensay asap, and stay extremely careful until you get your taming ability.
-Be opportunistic all the time. For example if I find 2 turtles by a river, the I eat 2 rations of meat to recover some stamina, then kill the turtles for 2 maets recovering my resource loss :)
-If you need to kill predators, its most comfortable during night time at a Bonefire, or Campfire. Just sit the edg of the fire, scanning for glowing eyes in the night. An arrow between them and you are ok. Bears are a different story by the way. My strategy for the is avoiding, till I get a decent pet.
Best wishes guys, just keep up, and careful :)
