Already been a thread on this and I agree Primal is perfect for a Survival Mode in the same detailed way as seems to be the case with what Bethesda are doing with Fallout 4.
Primal leans in the direction of survival and the devs like to talk about surviving in a primitive time but the survival mechanics in game are all currently very light wieght additions. Currently surviving feels a bit too easy even in the frozen wastes of the north.
Do not get me wrong: I love the progression from zero to hero in FC games, from food for animals to apex predator in Primal. I am happy enough being at the apex by the end of the game but ideally the journey whilst always remaining fun should be as in depth challenging as the backdrop and therefiore as rewarding as possible too. By challenging and rewarding I do not mean having enemies with added hit points or nerfing player weapon damage I mean via encouraging you to have to think and plan and really use the resources and the environment around you to succeed and progress.
As the OP states the Primal setting perfectly fits survival mechanics. Primal is on some levels entirely about who will survive into the future amongst the tribes and so on. If Primal fails to get a proper survival mode imo it will be something of a waste of potential. The advantage being twofold allowing people to play both old style FC Primal and also a far deeper even more engaging version too if they are up for the challenge to me that is a pure winner.
What I hope we do not get is mostly online competitive leaderboard nonsense were people can brag I survived for so long before my first death or some such without any actual additional survival mechanics worth mentioning being added.
I do not know about the majority of you folk but I play games because I enjoy the experience. I do not need to constantly compare my experiences to anyone elses to validate if I am having fun or not - but that is just me.
nothing about having to stop to eat & drink & sleep or take medicine to stave off disease sounds entertaining to me in the slightest.... :/
You have really good timing on this.... guess what? We just announced a Survivor Mode. Get ready, things are about to get brutal.
hope there is more to the new mode than just food, stamina and increased taming difficulty, though the taming thing sounds like the most interesting addition to me...
No Way!!! :-) :-) :-)
This is great, just caught the news announcement on Steam. Thanks.
By the way, no to go off topic but, for all of you who have AMD cards, update them. The Crimson Drivers are out of beta and my game is running a lot better now. It run fine before but, there was some glitching off & on but, not anymore. it even looks better.
Still playing without any HUD and the other day got taken apart - multiple times - striving to capture one of the nastier Izila outposts. Right now a permadeath options soumds a truly serious challenge. A challenge requiring a lot of thought and lots more gameplaying practice too. Love the idea that the new mode even takes fast travel into account - so far it all sounds great to me.
Yeah, I'm practicing without the HUD now but, not in a new game. I'm 70% deaf in one ear & 35% in the other so, that handicaps me a bit. I've been working on all settings with my headset configs / PC & sound devices.
I think the big trick to overall survival may well be picking the very best moment to unlock the Udam and Izila recruits to the village. The bonuses they give such as fire resistance and melee resistance and the bombs could make a big difference but actually surviving the recruiting process in the first place is gonna be hard work if you go for the permadeath thing...
Must admit Hunt3rKill3r2 without the minimap sound is pretty important so all I can do is wish you good luck. Still you can die very easily if you just lose concentration for a moment or simply get lax. I stupidly fell off a cliff at one point because I was admiring the view and stepped into a gap I did not realise was there. Otherwise big animals are serious bane if you get too near them without realising. One of my recurring idiot moments is in the dark amusingly if painfully mistaking a unmoving - resting - rhino for a rock.
