If they're Ancient North Eurasian people, shouldn't they be speaking a Proto-Uralic language rather than Proto-Indo-European one?
does anyone honestly care?
As an Uralic descendant, I do care.
Ubisofts linguistics have done pretty ****ty job if they think Indo-European was the only language and family of tribes within European region. And they boasted about pre-historic accuracy even. Udam in reality shouldn't even remotively understand Wenja and vice versa.
now the game won't be any fun!!!
I care. More detail is always a good thing, I think.
On the other hand, the game models a time long before either language was spoken. So it's not an issue of realism. I'm content with what they have done, which at least broadens the player's horizons a little in terms of ancient languages. They're basically doing with Far Cry Primal what Creative Assembly did for the Total War series when they released Rome: Total War with Ancient Latin dialog.
Thats my point, no one knows what the language was like in the time this game takes place, so going to these lengths to make it accurate and all that is basically pointless, not to mention the far cry games don't really sell themselves as uber-realistic or historically accurate, so they could have just made up some ooga booga caveman language and 99.9999% of players wouldn't have known the difference.
