Hey all,

I just recently got an Xbox and Xbox Live!
I have not played ANY online games before. Although I have been gaming since Atari 2600, Atari 8-Bit computers, then the Atari STs (Dungeon Master, woo hoo!).

I have Midtown Madness, Mechassault and recently bought Ghost Recon:IT for $29.99!

I just have some questions about online play and strategies in FPS type games.....From reading some of the comments that people make concerning maps, they say stuff like, "The main thing about this map is to gain control of the bridge early" or "This map is a struggle for control over the central building".....etc.....

I was just wondering why? I am not an army guy and know nothing about military tactics. I have never played a capture-the-flag game...never played a multiplayer deathmatch....never a siege, nothing......So can someone please explain the basic strategies behind the maps and gametypes? Does it have something to do with where you respawn when killed? Do you try to gradually inch your team closer and closer to the other teams spawn point or something?

I think Ghost Recon is probably the best game I have ever played, but I am having problems figuring out the strategies since I have little experience with any type of multiplayer FPS.

I just run a round and shoot other guys, but dont really have a game plan in mind.

Any hints/tips for the various gametypes and map tactics?

if running and gunning works for you then stick with it...

i personally just find a good place to snipe unsuspecting tangos from...most people push forward toward the other teams spawn

by playing online you will discover tactics from others, and you will eventually have a set plan for pretty much every map....

it also depends on what kind of soldier you are...for example if your a sniper...find a good, covered area and pick off enemies...

i have discovered that strategies come in fads...may sound strange but it is the way i look at it...when people first started playing siege...the idea was, if on defense, stay close to the base and gaurd it well...but now...more people tend to go out and attempt to flank ya from behind or just act as if it were a normal fire fight...

what gametype do you like to play?
what maps do you play most or need a strategy for?

- if running and gunning works for you then stick with
- it...

it doesnt work too well! i get killed a lot and dont kill enough! i have a problem sneaking around, i guess i dont seek cover good enough.

- what gametype do you like to play?

Hmmm, well, like I said before, GR is my 1st ever experience with a multiplayer online shooters, so I am not too familiar with all the different modes.

I have been playing last man standing solo and teams for the last couple days.

I think I am going to start to play some siege games as their appears to be more team strategy involved.

I guess what I would like to know is 3 things:

When you first spawn, what are the first thoughts on your mind (seriously)?

What are you and your teams 1st priority, 2nd priority, etc...

Do you all decide to do something as a team, or do you do your own thing and kind of wing it?

when there are respawns, the first thing on my mind is to get as far for the spanw zone as i can....but when there are no respawns, i tend to go slow and usually stick with my squad...

usually when i play...the first priority is to make some sort of plan to attack the other team....generally splitting up to cover all paths...then we try to get all around them and pretty much choke them...pretty much an attack from all angles...

when it is a map i am very famililiar with and i have a working strategy, i go off on my own...for example, when i play Embassy and spawn near the top, i head straight for the white building to establish a good sniping location...but when it is a map that i am not very familiar with or just havent found a good strategy for...i stick with some one who looks like they know what they are doing...the idea of the game is squad based fighting...so it is often to work together as a single unit amd cover each other...

a few points to remember during online play:

when there are respawns...dont hang around you spawn zone...you are likely to be spawn killed...

during seige, while on defense...it is often best to run for 15 seconds away from the base a find a covered area with a clear view of the base...

when playing with a man down...sensors are a big help...

it is good to know of glitches...but very bad to use them...

if you dont know the map...stay with some one who does...

hope that helps...

welcome to the game and forums....happy gaming /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

glitches are flaws in the game that losers take advantage of...it is actually cheating...for example, you can get into some walls...

Like in POW you can crawl under the barracks and stand up in them and tangos can't see you, but when you start shooting, they somehow get your ankles or their bullets finally get through the walls at you.

And in Red Square, on this side of the square, way to one side is a bombed out shell that you can crawl so close that you can just turn enough to get a look on the other side of the wall. Tangos come from that direction, so it works out well.

sniper or runner.dont fall into any order keep your game open and flexiable.i play snipers alot but theres always a heavy fire team not far away hidden as well.so i have a choice of two worlds.search and destroy or sit and wait.

I really hate stupid losers that take adv of glitches so if i find out that people are glitching repeatedly i kill them a lot of times !!!

dont do n e good cos i dont no n e of them but in other games like in mohaa i kill the guys that glitch.

i got booted about 6 times from a server cos a guy thought i was glitching lol he was running full bore at me while firing a sniper hahahaha corse he would have missed i hop hes reading this now !!!

i dont boot people for glitching once if they do it 1ce i tell them that there glitching and if they do i again i kill them 3 times i boot them.
