... a possible release date in the Fall 2004 (?).

Hows about some updates so we can stay excited about it?

Hmmm? Maybe a few crumbs?

I was thinking you were going to say someting about whiners invading when it gets released.

"Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary force:
You are about to embark upon a Great Crusade toward which we have strived these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking" - Gen. Dwight D. Eiseinhower-Supreme Allied Commander.

Personally, I think there's 50/50 chance that it will ever be released.

Just my take on it.

Well its about time someone said it.

there is not going to be a PF... all the whining has taken away the fun and drained the enthusiasm. Luthier took a vacation without telling anyone. Its a house of cards and every card is a joker. And DuxCorvans posts have caused general hysteria at 1c. (What with all the sparkling firestarting stares etc..) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

Before he left - Luthier told everyone that he had left his lucky rubberband in the car and that he would be right back... then the sound of a racing engine and screeching tires and.... he was gone.

So - what do you guys wanna talk about now?... BoB?

You may be right. But I'd guess modifying the FB engine to accomodate carrier ops, and render really nice ocean chop, took a lot of time.

We'll see.

I wish Luthier would post some updates.

I hope I'm wrong, but I can see a Euro-centric UBI HQ boffin saying that PF will only sell in the US and maybe Australia, and pull the plug.

But I hope not.

What am I missing? We know 1C can produce flyable aircraft with accurate cockpits and controls. And, from E3, we know they have a working piece of software that includes carrier ops and water. We've also seen the F6F and F4U in videos and pictures.

Given the track record of this team with new a/c, maps and mods...and the demonstrated progress, by what stretch do you imagine they can't produce this incremental improvement on the FB engine?

You guys must be getting lonely talking to yourselves. It may not be til the Christmas run beginning in late November, but my bet is that we'll see a package before the end of the year. I think we're simply seeing a group that writes their own marketing rules. They've been doing it 'all wrong' since IL2 came out...and winning!

The only thing I'm not certain about is the release date. I fully expect to see it in early 2005 and not fall 2004. Thats my guess...there's precious few months to do all that they want to do and its just not ready yet from what we've seen (although its looking great!).

Luthier is probably very busy with the development process and hasn't had time to post here. Couple that with the kind of behaviors that start to appear and it just becomes less satisfying than when the board originally opened and it was just the hardcore crowd (who generally hang out at other forums on the priphery on other days). When we see the official website appear...that'll be when things start to really roll.

And I also expect BoB won't ship till the end of 2005 or early 2006. Thats my other guess.

I think it is silly if they do think that. Hasn't IL2 sold well in the US? How many Americans have interest in the Eastern front? I am a WWII buff however I will admit I knew nothing about most of these Russian crates and had little interest in them. I only bought IL2 and its full priced add on (FB) because it is a great sim. Not having any interest in the theater it portrays has prevented me from getting too involved in it however it IS the best sim out.

Coming out with another European theater sim like BOB isn't going to peak my interest either. Yes, it would probably be the best Euro theater sim out but I am sick of flying with or against Luftwaffe planes. Let's see why. Here a list of every flight sim I have owned...

Red Baron 2 and 3D (this was by far my favorite for online play and the community was tops)

European Air War (half way decent for its time but never really engrossed me)

CFS1 (Microsoft, do I need to say more?)

Janes WWII Fighters (excellent graphics for its time but online play was never stable)

Screaming Demons over Europe (who signed off on releasing this dud? Probably the worst of the lot.)

B17 Flying Fortress (after all the hype, guess what? No online play. SP was pathetic enough so I guess it didn't matter anyway)

CFS2 (Finally a Pacific sim! However it is still M$) *note on MS, it was pretty obvious that online play was going to be lacking in
CFS2 when they were pushing their pay per play Fighter Ace when you install CFS2)

CFS3 (Yes, I learned my lesson from M$ and didn't waste my $$ on this bomb. Besides, yaawwn, another European theater sim. To make matters worse it features experimental planes that never saw action)

IL2 and FB (this is hands down the best however it only features the Eastern front which personally never interested me. As long as I have had this sim I have often dreamed of these guys doing a theater that I have interest in, especially the Pacific)

I know I am leaving some more out and there were others that I knew better not to buy like Battle of Britain, etc. Of every sim I mentioned all were Europe based except CFS2 which was only decent because of the theater it covered.

If Oleg and Co. do the Pacific next we would practically have everyones interest covered. We would now have a decent amount of planes from the US, USSR, Germany, Britain, and Japan and historical theaters to fly them in.

I will say this, the next European theater sim I WILL buy will be a WWI sim. Red Baron was great and it is shame that series died. I would LOVE to see a WW1 sim with up to date graphics engine, etc. Hopefully Knights over Europe will fill that void but they are even worse at releasing updates. Who knows if that thing will ever get off the ground.

Look, I think it's just that Luthier's still pissed off at having to do his own photoshop work in the "Quick E3 Report" thread. My apologies to Eagle who at least made an effort but as for the rest of us "you only get out of it what you put into it"...

Mind you I've always thought that saying was a bit stupid. I mean if you only get out of it what you put into it then it's a net gain of zero, so why bother?

Anyway... what were we talking about again ?
