Luthier said the Japanese will use radios so you don't need hand signals http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I could translate, but I'm so exhausted from covering E3 that I might do it later.

Whaw rhorta can I add that to my site?. Where did you get it from? I was experimenting with lights on Japanese aircraft a while ago. Acutely when not talking using Team speak or some thing, it makes you fly with your team mate much more and you learn the way he flys and naturally work together.

I could translate too but a little busy now hehe. I think the second says 'Come closer/lower'
'3rd Higher'. '4th Stop' etc. I'll do it tonight..

As for the source, its from a 1979 Maru Mechanic Special on the Zero. This also features a Japanese translation of a US report on the Zero's handling, similar to the type we've seen from Skychimp. Its a special on Ed Maloney's restored Mod. 52. Since I don't have the US report it still has its use, the graphs are nice.

Since I cannot read the introduction / caption I cannot say if these are airborne signals or deck handling signals.

There is also a piece on Japanese carrier landing techniques in this issue.

Yeah, unfortunately the hand signals are just way beyond of what we can do here. It's a huge task - create all the animations, tie them to specific events, get them to work in all the different cockpits without clipping through walls, somehow define their effectiveness by distance from fellow pilots, etc. That's just off the top of my head.

We are trying to figure out whether we can implement some sort of a radio on/off toggle on Japanese planes definable in the FMB / DGen, but even that might be too complex at this stage since so much is tied into this.

So, a great resource, but unfortunately not in this sim http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Couldn't or wouldn't work in a sim anyway, not at today's stadards or those of the near future. But I thought that some people might like to see them anyway - and of course translate some basics.

Currently semi-hooked on IJN & IJA AFs, actually the second time in a couple of years, very gratifying as a subject / hobby. Especially cracking Kanji without any help!

BTW, since I cought you here Luthier, is the Nate unflyable in the initial release due to planning or lacking source material?

Jieitai_Tsunami thanks a lot!!

Now how the hell do I get my paws on part one, must be one of the earlier issues. Fortunately I have a batch on the way, if I happen to stumble upon them I will post them here.

Thanks again for the effort, much appreciated.

No problem Rhorta. I always try and study Japanese every day one way or another and translating that gave me some practice. Sure was hard work though http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif.

It seems to be to be deck signals so people can communicate over the noise if the aircraft. Or when not in ear shot.
