I gotta ask. I was on greatergreen server, and flew the Lagg7. I was climbing to alt, and noticed my speed was 470! the thing never really lost speed, and I was able to climb really well in it and go over the top without stalling, even tho I was sure my energy state was not the best.

Whats the reality of this plane? I do know that when the Lagg got the radial, it performed well, but did it have that much horsepower? Does the game simulate the Lagg7 very well? I would appreciate any knowledge of the Lagg7 that you might want to share, but please refrain from the "it sucks" and "it's uber" posts, cause that doesn't help at all.

I am almost positive that in the first 5 replies there will be a "it sucks" or "it's uber" post.

Its uber.

But seriously, it didn't have the most powerful engine, but it did have one of the best T/W ratios of late war planes. That, coupled with a more aerodynamic airframe, made it quick to accelerate, climb and reach high speeds.

Correct me if Im wrong but the laggs in game are the 3-it the 3-4 and the 3.

All great planes. Poor rear vis. and they roll a bit slow but everythig else they do really well. Not the tops in anything but they do it all well.

Dunno much about the la7. I never fly it. The russian planes I fly are the earliest lagg, the migs, and- well- all the lend lease ones except the p-39.

Anyways greatergreen's server is a pretty good one. Very very challenging and fun. I played on it some last night. Might do it again tonight. Just got to get another beer in me so I can get my swirve on first.

Or is the la's a series of later laggs? Hmm dunno. But either way it shows how little I still know about the soviet planes irl.

/shrug Never fly it.

Repeat after me, folks: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A LAGG-7 If it's got a round engine, it's a *LAVOCHKIN*, full stop.

If it has an inline engine and the name ends in the number 3, it's a Lavochkin, Gorbunov & Gudkov (LaGG). G. and G. were not around for the later versions.

Please stop disrepcting the poor Lavochka, silly Americans. "Lagg-7". Sheesh. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif At the very least you could have capitalised the two G's.

Thank you, this post has been a post by your friendly neighborhood airplane-name-nazi.

The La-7 was an excellent plane!

The LaGG-3 was good also but not as good.

Make up your mind about what plane you're asking about... is it The "La" or "LaGG" ?

La5 to 7 are basicly laGG3 with new engine and a bit improved wings. Lagg 3 was not at all a bad plane but production was uneven and sometimes even wings out of shape wich made it dangerous for rookie pilots.

read article about Ky√¬∂sti Karhila (finnish ace) and se pictures of captured LaGG3.

(There is 2 articles. Its in the long version)

While u are there u might want to glance on the fighter tactics of Hasse Wind (on top) Gives a good view of how they countered soviet aircraft.

La5 -7 was wery good and light aircraft but could not take lots of hits. I've read articles where they got a single short half sec burst from a Bf109 g2 and it broke in half.
