I know I'm not supposed to be turn fighting with an I-16. My question is: Is performing high yo-yos considered turn-fighting?

An example: (QMB @ 3m) Just before the merge I'm at 3.5m and the bandit is 500m below @ 3m. I push neg. G's into a dive and accelerate up to 460kph. As he enters the left third of my cockpit, I lead turn in the vertical, slicing up, banking left and pulling massive Gs in a wingover and end up behind his 3/9 line at a distance of 1000m.

I accelerate and dive down after him. He rolls over and dives for the ground.

At this time, I pull out of his plane of motion, unload, roll over and vector in on his turn circle - performing a high yo-yo.

Problem is - sometimes it works, and others it doesn't. Often he'll pull up and around me and then I'm toast. Sometimes it does work and I continue to pursue, when he rolls over and dives, I pull another yo-yo, and stay in lag.

Should I not be high yo-yo'ing in a lower turning performance airplane? If not, what should I do?

I remember reading that you shouldn't perform any BFM outside of the bandits turning circle - but in the situation above - when I have made it to his six - how do I get into his turning circle before he can pull around me?

No.

I just noticed that there were 50 posts about the K-4 not having a rudder and it bounced my post to the 2nd page. It could be that no one knows the answer or that my question is lame, but I was hoping someone could help out...

Dag! Your post is just overflowing with Shaw! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Hard to say. I hate to throw a wrench in your works but I'd say just work your speed advantage. That is, simply, BnZ him and stay the hell away from him otherwise. But I know how hard it is to resist the temptation to mix it up with the little buggers. I made the mistake online of doing just that in an F2. Had a couple good passes on two or three that were after me. I had an opportunity to leave and re-join my squad after a nice zoom climb left them way below but I went in anyway. End result: ailerons shot out and I was captured after baled out. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Viper, that´s not YOU, is it?

And if it IS, ever thought of making a pilot skin?

Yeah, I know - been reading the Falcon 3.0 manual posted on SimHQ so now I probably use too much terminology.

I guess I just wanted to know if doing high yo-yos was smart in a 109E against an I-16....
