View Full Version : Just been looking over the AEP manual...

Funny how it makes no mention of the Spitfire in its little list (page 2)- it`s nowhere. Not on the box either... Big mistake. IN Britain, if you want to sell AEP it should have been mentioned. Even new players would have bought AEP + FB to have the Spit. I guess Oleg wasn`t certain it would make AEP so decide to play safe and not advertise it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Also, much spoken of the online Campaign. Very little on anything else. Anyone not online would not be blamed for passing this add-on by if they only wanted it for the offline campaigns... Even the Battles Over Europe manual was more informative than this.

`Meet the Active and Passionate Online Community` it waffles on the back.

It got that dead right! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Yeah, it is kinda funny.

Missed marketing opportunity IMHO. I mean you're looking to bring in new American players so you produce a cover with the P51 and a B17, great - instant hit off the shelves.

In the UK an uninitiated player is just going to look at it and think "great, another CFS3". If they had a UK specific cover with a Spitfire and Hurricane in a furball with some Heinkels and Messerschmitts they'd shift a few more copies.

I mean it's not as if they didn't have the time with the delayed Euro release now, is it! What exactly WERE they doing with those weeks?

Cheers, Spinner

This is a funny thread. Brits love to make pokes at the yanks for liking "shiney things" and being mostly fad driven.

I think the cover/manual went to the printers a while ago, before the spit was definitely in there - if you look further you'll also see there are several version of the B25 in the AI list - It also lists the CR 42 and Finnish Gladiator as AI planes (and not flyable) on the back cover.

You read the manual ? WOW http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif if you look in it it tells you the B25 is included http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif it was printed before the disc was finalised, if i were you Seafire i would take it back under the trade descriptions act after uninstalling it and purchase a copy of lemmings instead http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The manual is the jewel case insert. Slide it out and just like that, you've got a manual too.

Well don't I feel like a moron. Something I have noticed is about the recon missions, it says if the AI planes land you get 10% to the recon level, so on regular campaign mission should I let all AI land?

Oh definately the 3d one, if it wasn't for the key guides in the manual.. Ubi could of punched a hole in one corner of it so at least i could of hung it up, trouble is those shiney pages ain't very good to use http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gifhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I wonder why manuals are offered? This team of developers seems to have a kind of 'skunk works' culture -- make/test/fix/ship/fix. The 'manuals' are created in another place..and at a different time.

That's a good thing, IMO. Since the core users seem to be plugged in here and in other sim forums, they know about changes before they come and download patches the day they're released. Then these folks (users) modify the files, tinker with their systems, send fixes back and forth. Man, they even write their own manuals and offer them online.

I've been flying this sim two years, and never considered the manual required reading. And when something goes wrong and I study the docs, they're often wrong. The forums, sim websites, even IL2's, provide more answers than most of us have questions. Do you think manuals are critical?
