Remembering CFS2 and the ability to ignite the trail of leaking fuel from unsealed tanks on the Japanese aircraft -- is this historically accurate, common or not?

A trail of fuel was the death signal for all aircraft at the beginning of the war. Its basic pyrotechnics -- fuel, air, heat.

In the Pacific, IJN and JAAF aircraft lacked self-sealing (rubberized) fuel tanks. Even tracer trails could light them up. That seems to be modeled pretty well in FB. Some simmers who like to fly these planes...claim it's overmodeled.
