Since there are so many people out there with multiple computers these days, why not setup the dedicated server package to run a single player campaign. This would offload much of the CPU load from the player's machine allowing for lower end systems to be playable and for improved performance on the higher end systems. Even better, why not allow multiple dedicated servers to distribute the AI load? How much CPU does it take just to do the AI and the flight model that goes with it? Hell, the AI node(s) could use the same client code sans graphics output.

Not only would you have the best sim on the market, AFAIK it would be the first consumer level distibuted AI environment.

At my house alone I could have 3 Pentium II 400 Mhz or better, 1 Athlon 850Mhz, 1 Athlon 1600XP mobile, 1 Athlon 1700XP, 1 dual Pentium III 933 Mhz, and 1 dual Athlon XP 2100 machines running the setup. As of right now all that power just sits there downloading porn. I would much rather it be kicking my ***.

Also, while you're at it, why not setup the dedicated server to do a multi player dynamic campaign like the single player mode. Then there would be no need to have someone design decent missions. Just setup the speed of campaign parameters and how long each mission should last before timing out (in case there are no players), probably some other stuff I don't know about, and let it run.

Just my 2 cents worth.
