The original I mean. I've been kind of bored with FB lately, haven't been online playing much, and the dynamic campaign has not really been what I hoped. This afternoon, I got out my old IL2 CD, and installed it again. I finished all of the campaigns that came in the box, plus some nice addon's like Four Days in the Fall and the BI-1 campaign back when I first bought it, and remembered them being great.

I've started a new Russian bomber campaign, and wow what I'd forgotten. The IL2's have a satisfying "rumble" to the engines, and in a multiplane formation, the roar is so cool. I had a couple of 109's on my tail at a couple of points, and the old rat-a-tat sound of the guns brought a grin to my face instantly. Looks like I'm going to be having some great fun with this sim again. http://www.geocities.com/adlabs6/B/bin/1/happy.gif

I hear ya. Picked up a copy of the old IL-2 so I could hang out online with HansKnappstick (a gentleman and a scholar) and was surprised at the depth it has. Great fun. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

IL2 was a true classic.

The trim and the flaps were better than FB, and it was less complicated (less is more in this case).

Some video games just try to do too much nowadays.

Heh!
Better sound , planes required much more skill to fly , landing were not so easy , combat flaps were really effective , a flyby in the Emil was really impressive in sound&look and dogfights were somehow even.Miss those, yet I have FB and I'm happy with it now.Remember how easy was to stall P-39? That was definitely not a n00b plane , eh?

Totally agree. Flying in the original IL2 was more of a challenge, it's a pity there aren't more players online on HL because I still have it on my hard drive (but have not played it for a while).

Mmm... I think I might give it a spin tonight..!

I still play it every now and then, (my Bro's comp can only handle IL2 and we play online sometimes) I used to say that IL2 was 90% the game FB is, but since the last patch, Id have to say that FB is now head and shoulders above IL2. IL2 still sounds better though.

I still occasionally fire up IL2 to fly the Polikarpov. I used to go hunting P-3s (substitute for Bf 110) in the sunset over Smolensk a lot. The old game is less complicated, and gives you ample time to simply enjoy the view.

Flying the out-of-the-box Polikarpovs used to be a delight. So was hunting P-3s. Bout I think was vastly over modelled, but it was fun nevertheless.

Fly friendly!

Very true, and IL2 is no slouch on the visuals. I had never run it since I upgraded my PC, and boy it flys now, even with settings bumped up.

Since the sound is so nice, I'll have to test it with my EAX card... I forgot all about it, hehe.

well, i spose I'm the new kid on the block in this respect.. Was flying cfs2 back when I picked up a copy of IL2.. I just couldnt get it to run right on my weak PC back then so I never got into it..http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

In retrospect, I know if I had got it working, I would have been here long ago...

Although my PC is faster now, I probably wont install it, just because I am pretty much a 1 sim man..

I even have Lock-On and have spent all of about 20 minutes in it.. I should go look and see if they have it patched yet cause now Lock-On crashes my system--go figure..

Still, I think I'm always gonna be a prop guy.. The energy management and finesse of these slower prop planes appeals to me more than jet fighters... Oh well..
