Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Could we get a binary patch for 64-bit WinXP? Unless I misunderstand, there would be no need to rework the art, only the binaries.
I have 64-bit XP and would be willing to test!

Are you running a 64 bit CPU?
Not as expensive as a new car, but... major envy!

They aren't too expensive. I paid $280 for mine, plus $180 for a new mobo.
Far cheaper than what I paid for brand new DDR motherboard + Athlon when they were new technology. Be sure.

Great suggestion. But, I wish the compiler tools makers were ready with a solution for 64-bit computing. After reading this page from Microsoft, it appears that they are making progress on migration tools for moving 32-bit apps to 64-bit environments:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/win64/win64/the_tools.asp
So, it looks like a pre-release 64-bit compiler is available in the MS Platform SDK release to perform lexical testing of 32-bit code for potential definitions problems for 64-bit as well as actually output some working 64-bit object files. Also, MS appears to be working on creating 64-bit optimized libraries, but not all the 32-bit libraries have a 64-bit analog, still (so invoking the pre-release linker may fail). Migration of any 32-bit application to 64-bit at this early stage will require some work by the developer.
You would think by now that a software solution would be out there because the hardware is here, but not quite (from MS, anyway). The Intel website drones on and on about the 64-bit Itanium architecture, but I am sure they won't be doing anything special to their line of compilers to help AMD. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sun has released an early 64-bit java dev package, so it would be completely possible to get a 64 bit compile.
I realize it would be rough around the edges. Thats fine with me. I am willing to test if 1C is willing to make a new build.

Neal,
If you want to go 64 bit the new Semperons might be of interest to you,

Wouldn't be of much interest if you want 64bit because the Semprons aren't 64bit. Stupidest thing AMD ever did, they wanted 64bit to catch on, but then they release a low end chip with it disabled. About as smart as Nvidia and the Geforce4MX and trying to get DX8 out.

I thought almost every one here had a 64 bit CPU. I have an Athlon 64 3200+. I'm still waiting for Windows XP 64bit to come out.
