I'm puzzled

I can "handle" most aircraft in the Il2 inventory just fine... except the FW190!
Put simply, I pull the stick back, all the speed washes off and I'm a sitting duck!

I've flown (jet) fighters for 20 years so I know about lift induced drag, thrust to weight etc, is it just that my joystick is set up wrong? Anyone any ideas?

First: Wellcome to the forums http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Second: there is nothing wrong with your joystick. the FW 190 is without doubt THE most debated a/c around. My personal oppinion on the FW is that the energy drain is a bit overdone and the stall much more violent than it should be, but leave that be.
The FW 190 is a very potent, agile and powerful fighter, but it takes ALOT of practice to master, you might want to start training against easy AI planes with not too great turn-rate like for instance the P-47.
Remember that the FW is NOT a turn and burn fighter and going into a turning dogfight will get you killed for sure.
I'm still only starting to get the hand af that plane and I started flying it in 1999!
Good luck and remember: practice, practice, practice.

You might have a look here:

Seeking advice for the FW-190 series (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=23110283&m=51110714)

It seems that the FW-190 was actually pretty good at dogfighting too, but we have what we have and though you shouldn't take my word for it, the Butcherbird can be flown very effectively.

C!
