View Full Version : Chess Minigame in Unity?

After Ubisoft included a bunch of fun chess minigames in its recent game "Watch Dogs", I wonder, does anyone know if AC: Unity will feature similar chess minigames? This was a period in which chess had become quite popular, especially in Paris, and the french chess player Philidor was arguably the world chess champion of the time.

If it does feature a chess minigame, I hope the famous chess hub, Paris's Café de la Régence, will be featured in the game.

Has anyone heard any rumors about this possibility?

I hope so too! I wish Arno can "cheat" in the mini-games. I was surprised when Edward played fair and square all the time!

I hope it returns too, in AC3 and AC4 I enjoyed playing mini games every now and then. It would be nice for them to return in Unity, and maybe play with other players, but I don't mind playing with NPCs. As long as they're not linked to synchronisation then it would be nice to have them again.

That's a really cool idea, I hope it's in the game!

I used to play chess when I was a child. And I loved to play chess in WD, I hope they'll do the same thing on AC Unity!

This so much.
As a fun side activity the mini games could be interesting and fun for those who like those kind of games and know how to play them. (I don't so I don't play them if I don't absolutely have to..)

It's a scripted thing in TOKW.

Oh, and how does one trigger it? Just happens when you loose?

You can only do that in a certain story mission.

With all the chess games throughout the AC series I would have thought that, they would have been the ones to first implement the chess game in their games...>_> not Watch_Dogs

Oh, I didn't remember doing that.

I would love to rage quit. :D

Imagine you're losing the game, and you have the option to lose with dignity, or be a sore loser and start a mother f***ing brawl.

I personally think it would be an interesting mechanic considering the setting.

One of the best moments in ToKW :D
that was some powerful tea Connor drank. It should be made available near every mini game. "To rage quit this game, take a sip of this tea"

I'm always game for a little chess- plus, I was awful at the games in AC3, so it would be nice to have a minigame that I'm actually familiar with.

Ubisoft said a while back there are no board games in Unity.

Surprised no one remembers this.

Meh, if its in there cool whatever. If its not then I honestly do not care. I don't like playing board games in video games. Its like playing a game within a game. Especially chess, since itself in real life feels so nice to move and see the pieces and the board yourself. It gets a bit boring just playing chess in a video game when you can easily be running from rooftops as Arno.

I would much rather have Arno sit at the counter of the Cafe Theatre and drink a cup of coffee whilst blending in.

Board games and similar pointless missions in AC were an abomination and instead of making story-driven and interesting missions, they’ve been spamming the games with that waste of time. I know it’s up to me to play them or not, but I’d rather have side mission that offer something valuable than pointless collectibles and games.

It adds realism to the game, I loved both Red dead´s redemption and far cry poker.

I disagree.

I like the GTAV way of thinking where there's a bunch of pointless but fun stuff to do like play tennis, do yoga and go diving.

But that's not to say I don't want a bunch of in-depth missions too.

Missions with cutscenes like the homestead ones work well for me. Though they could be much more fleshed out gameplay-wise.
