View Full Version : I'm European.... - and LOVING the idea of flying Pacific Fighters!

I don't know why, but around here I sometimes see postings like "Only yanks want PF" or "Ubi's gonna pull the plug on PF 'cos they're eurocentric and nobody in Europe will buy PF", yadda, yadda, yadda...

I don't know where these ideas come from. I for one am a European who just LOVES the idea of finally being able to fly from carriers and over the Pacific in an "Oleg-sim".

The airwar in the Pacific always occupied a big place in my awareness of WWII. Much bigger than the Eastern Front airwar, for sure, due to the high US cultural influence here in Europe.

I'm sure this goes for most other Europeans frequenting these boards. PF won't make us "discover a new theatre of war" as Il-2 did. We'll feel right at home in PF from day 1.

I'm sure a lot of Yanks are also looking forward to the BoB, due to its emblematic place in the history of air fighting, even though no US planes played a prominent part.

I don't see why somebody want to make up a false divide, because I'm totally sure that a LOT of European boys have been day-dreaming about Hellcats and Zero's, carriers and Kamikazes when we were younger... I know I did!

As a Blacksheep (and a Yank) I'm definatley looking forward to PF. But the sounds of information about new graphics engines and dramatically improved flight modeling in The Battle of Brittain... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif Oh my... As a real pilot BoB has me sitting on the edge of my seat for it's release. The Brit members in "The Sheeps Pen" are too!

The only place this "I-won't-buy-this-sim-cause-it's-not-my-country's-planes" mentality exists is in the minds of some people that post on flight sim forums.

Jup, Frey is right here. Unlike a lot of american voices i heared in the Il2 Forums, europeans seem have not much of a problem to play other countrie's sides. I pesonally am looking forward to PF a lot.

I refuse to be dragged down to your level with such a stupid comment. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/51.gif

I'm with Frey, in a basic sense. I was always most attracted to Easter Front cos over here in USA you never see it on TV. If its not shown on TV its worth learning about. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Well, its just the idea of something new, different.

If Japanese troops advanced to the Mississippi River and Boeing and Grumman factories moved to the Appalachian Mountains, and Japanese bombers appeared over Washington DC but the Japs were surrounded, trapped, and Defeated in Jackson Mississippi (my old home http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ) then pushed back into the Pacific, that would be worthy of a TV show.

Of course Canada would have surrendered. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif
-- just a joke, and Payback for LEXX on Saturday mornings 4AM-6AM EST SciFi Channel. -- this saturday morning NORB is showing, one of the best introductions to the show if you can catch it at 4AM.

11-JUN-04 4:00 AM LEXX NORB
11-JUN-04 5:00 AM LEXX TWILIGHT
(Saturday morning 12 June actually)

A few years ago you'd have found no shortage of people who'd say that no Westerners could possibly ever be interested in a sim of airwar on the Eastern Front. Would they have been right?

"Those people" are just bored. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

PF may be ditched because it's US centric!!!!
http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif
PF is more likely to get more sales because it's US centric. People know what it's about.

What about BoB - it has no US or Russian planes in it, Just British and German.
Maybe UBI should shelve that as not appealing to US sales...

Cheers.

BoB should unexpectedly cash in on some sales from the BoB movie staring Tom Cruise. If the movie gets some appeal, then it'll help BoB alot in US sales methinks. Plus us Sim guys will buy whatever it is no matter what the theater of war is.

Tom going up against Adolf? Thats nice, as his last movie he was going up against the US (Navy?)!

When is this movie comming out?-Maybe it will have the Spanish Civil war in the begining, which would MAKE a great movie in itself.

Oh- thats right, Tom has a Mustang of his own!

Now I like Cruise, I think....

Agree with you Frey.

I'm all red, white and blue and as for BoB, I can't wait to enlist in the RAF.

Lets not forget that the Australians and the New Zealanders always get left out of sims and this is a perfect reason for their inclusion. So its only fair! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
