What do the different ranks mean?

Is there a way to not have a rank and not be in charge of the squads and instead follow the AI?

I am not leadership material.

just leave it at default, you start with the lowest rank when you begin a campaign, it puts you at the end of the line, give it time and youll be a leader. But be advised that the better you do youll get promotions and eventually have to take a squad up. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

edit: to answer your first question the ranks are what they are, 'ranks'. Put it this way, a pilot in the USAirForce starts with 2nd Lt. when commisioned, they get promoted to 1st Lt. then Captain and so forth(not exactly the ranks of USSR or German or any other nation in FB) but the lower the rank the less you command.

You are about to embark upon a Great Crusade toward which we have strived these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking" - Gen. Dwight D. Eiseinhower-Supreme Allied Commander.

so on the begging missions I AM supposed to follow the AI planes.

Ok. I always seemed like they were following me....guess I was flying to fast.

Thanks...

If you set the rank higher up, you will lead a section faster

If you set it at the highest level, you will lead.

If you leave it at the lowest rank, and you complete missions sucessfully, eventually you will be promoted, no matter what

a way you can check is hit the 'tab' key, if there are options for commands, you are in command, if not, then you follow their orders.
