The AI have too many clear sky collisions, epecially when they're on escort duty, since they cavort about and make
helter-skelter turns, where one AI goes one way, one goes another, one makes a little climbing turn, so on, so forth. They many times lose sight of one another, something that is not recommended in real formation flying for obvious reasons. They eventually reform to some extent but then do it again, and often collide when they are in theses strange wild turns. On escort with AI, I refuse to fly close to them!!! I also avoid incessant full throttle operation by not forming up on them. Escorting AI resort to this full throttle when they are trying to get ahead of the escorted bombers/transports, even though it's not necessary. I simply fly smooth lazy circles around the escorted planes with no excessive manuevering and rarely exceed 60 or 70% throttle. Kind of like the way they did it in real life!!
I really don't know where Oleg and crew ever got the idea
that escort fighters should fly in an insane manner. No whining, just hope this gets their ( Maddox Games ) attention and they'll finally change this behavior to a more smooth type of escort flying. And if you guys who agree keep bumping this, who knows, maybe they'll change it.

I agree. The AI in combat is generally not bad(actually, some of the best AI I've ever seen compared to other sims of the same genre..) - but aside combat, the general quality of their judgements are pretty much poor.

One distinct result of that, is that the AI has no concern for the player at all, during combat maneuvering. It doesn't move out of the way, nor does it check your position. Once they "bite down" the butts of their targets, they proceed to active engagement and do not care whether or not you're in their way. Thus, I've experienced a lot of plane losses from friendly fire.

Maybe the 1C crew will try and implement a more 'structured' AI in the future.

Another thing...
It seems that when you order your wingman to "Cover me", he goes after the plane closest to you, which is not always a good thing. Many times I've been chasing down an opponent, and have an enemy fast approaching my six, only to have my wingman attack the target in front of me instead of clearing my tail.
