In every version of IL2/FB/AEP, the charicteristics of the various planes tend to change and often change drastically. This has lead to many debates over which version had the best flight model for each plane but one thing has gone unnoticed; which planes are actually noob planes. In IL2 up to FB 1.2, the Yak-3 was undeniably one of the single most newbiesk planes in the series but now I'm not so sure. Every thread I have seen recently continues to label the Yak-3 as a noob plane but I havn't seen a single Yak-3 since FB 1.2. Makes me wonder if it is still a noob plane or not. I here many whines about how noobish the Yak-3 is but no noobs ever fly them, they all fly the La-7 or to a far lesser extent, the Ki-84. In fact, the only allied planes I have seen flown online in the last few months are P-51's, P-38's, Spits and La-7's. I havn't seen a Yak of any type in a DF server for a very long time. Maybe I'll go make a DF map with the La series banned and force the ruskies to fly their "newbie and incredably overmodeled" Yak-3 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif. Perhaps I've just brained my damage though.

LaGG-3's are rare too in 1943 servers but they are present.

I fly Yak's alot recently...the 9's mostly but I think I may take the Yak-3 out for a spin. The funny thing is that the real Luftwaffe pilots were probably calling the Yak-3 a "n00b" plane as well since the thing was faster than most opponents, more manuverable, and pretty darn effective.

The Yak-3 isn't condusive to the new pilot for a couple of reasons. It overheats quickly so effective radiatior management is required, it needs fuel mix tweaking above 4000 meters, its armament is very concentrated in the nose and its ammo load lasts a very short period of time. So the La-5 or La-7 gets used more because of reduced engine management and increased fire time.

I may start flying the thing again... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I love flying LaGG's, but only when there's a proper planeset for them. The best planes to fight against while flying LaGG's are mid-109's, 190's, and bombers. Early planes are too easy to down in them. Late War fighters outclass the LaGG-3 type 6, and I feel the type 66's ammo is not powerful enough. Still, they're very good, sturdy planes. A bit slow, but pretty much a great all arounder!

As for the Yak-3, nobody really flies it anymore because it's DM is now in its proper place, and it cannot take as much damage as it used to in previous patches. As for the Yaks, I prefer the Yak-1 series, as Lilya Vladimirovna herself (Litvyak) flew the Yak-1 and Yak-1b. I have skins for her and a specially made pilot skin I did myself. Lilya is one of the people in history I'd prefer to meet. I'd give my life right now just to fly with her once. And I'm not joking. The only thing I'd feel sorry about leaving behind is probably my few friends, about 3, in High School, the people who have mentored me but are in college now, and probably one other girl, who's saved my life countless times. But other than that, I'd prefer to live and fight alongside Lilya.

Noob planes are planes that anyone with little or no experience can instantly fly halfway decently with. Superplanes are planes that anyone with little or no experience can pick up and fly and deal great damage with.

Noob planes are planes like the Hurricane, the Zero, the Spitfire, and the Yak. Actually, those last two are almost superplanes, but the Spitfire is too slow and the Yak breaks up at six hundred kilometers per hour.

The only superplanes, I think, are the La-7 and the Ki-84. My very first time (and just about my last time) in a Ki-84, I repeatedly blew away a very good player who had been kicking my butt in my BF-109 G-2. I don't remember what he was flying. As for the La-7, well, the only reason I stopped flying it was that I wasn't getting any better at the game. It was just too easy to make kills in that plane, unless you encountered another superplane.

Yak 3 is still ok but now there are alternatives with similar performance characteristics (La7, and Spit come to mind)
I fly the Spit most of the time meself. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

1.0 was excellent with the exception of the p40 divebug, i153,i16, lagg3 and super hurricane.

Everything else seemed great and the us aircraft had the 120-100 mix and supercharger settings the 109, la5-7 and yak fights were fun and very close in competition. The 109 couldnt turn with them but the 109 could out dive them becuase of the 650 breakup speed the russian aircraft had.

Online play went down hill ever since they added the super snap roll with rudder.

Now you go into a server like virtualpilots its pretty much all laggs on the russian side or yaks, fin side all take g2s

servers with the ez settings no pit externals on padlock enabled full labels and maps icon all planesets for each side are usually nothing baut 190a9 yak3s la7s ki84s and p63s, of course flying an early war plane is instant death in those.

the only server i seen mustangs in is warclouds becuase its us brit vs german. the majority fly the spitfire p38 and mustang. and eagle with his p47 d10.
