View Full Version : Hurricane Grossly Overmodelled

Found this in a book called "Hurricane, Messerschmit" by Chaz Bower and Armand van Ishoven (page 83) "I chatted to a pilot concerning the destructive power of his four Hispano 20mm cannons. He described a raid on a German depot. His squadron was to attack in threes each group in turn peppering the building with cannon fire, and then circle and repeat this attack. 'As I made my second approach,' he said, 'the face of the building collapsed like a jigsaw puzzle and I could see some of the floors sagging'"
I mean, come on!. I have been trying to get in touch with the RAF to complain about the gross RL overmodelling of this plane, but so far they do not want to know. It's no wonder Germany lost the war when they were up against such obviously biased flight models as this. I say we stage a rematch, and make sure all the flight models of all the planes are identical. It wouldn't do to have one type of plane out-performing or out-gunning another, would it?
And on this note, when are we getting the Hurricanes with twin 40mm Vickers 'S' Cannons?

Love hugs and kisses

I don't understand the purpose of this post.

Are you saying the Hurricane is modelled to be better than it really was?

I really hope you are being ironic Cooper, if I have to put big winking smiley faces after anything funny so people realise it is a joke I am going to be very disappointed.
Of course, if you are also taking the mickey, then I am impressed at your subtle sense of humour. If not, well......

So very confused http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The Hurricane hasn't been overmodeled since 1.0. Since then it hasn't changed much at all. Its a very enjoyable ride but it certainly isn't very fast...

I think he was trying to say that the 20mm Hispano cannon was obscenely powerful in real life. Which it was! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Does anyone have numbers for the Hispano? I know it owns everything else, but I am wondering why it does.

An Me-262 totally out-ran my I-16 last night. That plane is so overmodeled.

Ok, now I'm gonna ask something reaaaaallly stupid, just try not to be too harsh on mee.

Technically, what is the difference between a machinegun and a cannon? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

I don't think it's a supid question.

My limited knowledge leads me to believe that a machine gun simply spewed out bits of lead whereas a cannon spits out explosive 'bits of lead'

I'm keeping it simple cause I am a bit simple OK http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I believe the difference between a machine gun, a heavy machine gun and a cannon has to do with rate of fire, and weight and diameter of the rounds.

Typical example of a machine gun caliber: 7.62 mm diameter (.300 caliber)
Typical example of the heavy machine gun caliber: 12.7 mm (.50 caliber)
Typical examples of the cannon caliber: 20 mm, 30 mm, 37 mm

Cannon shells are much heavier and have far more recoil, which means it is much more difficult to fire them rapidly. The moving parts in the gun have to be bigger and possibly move further. The lightest guns can be made the fastest. Heavy machine guns are somewhere in between.

The correct answer to "What's the difference between a cannon & a machine gun?" is "It depends on who you ask!". Different armies have differing definitions.

Generalising somewhat, 20mm and up is cannon (though the German 15mm with explosive ammunition would probably qualify too). Please note that this is a very simplistic answer and there will be the occasional exception http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

Driver609, your attempt to find intelligent life forms in planet Earth has proven a disaster. Too subtle and ironic for us, hairless overmodeled apes. Next time try drawing clear pics with a chalk or making puppets talk. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif
