View Full Version : Massive War in BoB?

If BoB can support as many aircraft as advertised - wouldn't it be good to have a gameplay mode where someone can run a server that acts like a ongoing war 24/7?

Similiar to the scripted servers, but with moving convoys, etc... and team objective points?

Something to think about - there is so much participation in online wars, but they miss the 24/7 immersion - the ability to jump in and be a part of a greater war outside of coop games.

Might be a good idea, but wouldn't someone have to sort of 'command' the general direction of gameplay in that case? If not, it would be a constant free for all with no rhyme or reason. All the efforts of the 'Blue General' would go to waste when he logged off and someone else took over the 'Blue General' role.

I saw this happen to a MMOG I liked a lot. Everyone wanted to be in charge and had their own ideas. There were no rules and no penalties for not doing the 'right' thing (like keeping your word, or taking advantage of situations even among players on your own 'team') and so cheating and dis-satisfaction was the rule of the day until they pulled the plug on the game. I don't mean exploit cheating either. I mean things like "we'll let you win this time if we can win the next one", and players being kept in the dark by their 'leaders' because it benefited the 'leaders' to do so.
I like the idea, but I don't think there's anything to stop it from de-volving into chaos.

Those in doubt about the feasability of this suggestion need to get hold of a copy of Falcon 4. Those of us who use that game have been enjoying that very virtual war for years. It has its flaws, and it has taken a while to get the balances and dynamics sorted out, but it is a lot more immersive than anything else!

The main reason for it taking so long to get sorted out was that it was done through 3rd party efforts. The publisher soon ceased to support the product. A dedicated developer such as 1C could no doubt do it, if they set their minds to it.

Cheers,
Fred

How many planes is BoB going to be able to cope with? I
must have missed an update or something...

That would be huge Recon. It would be neat if we could merge the gap between DF scripted wars and coop wars in a continuous style war. I wouldn't have a problem paying a small monthly fee or something for that such as in Warbirds. I really feel that once the BOB gets on the way its going to get much more support from the West since it is a Western Front scenario. I am looking forward to it.
