Ok just need to know if this is a known problem or is this something i can allow

Personally I wouldn't trust Norton. There have been stories of Norton actually giving people Viruses (maybe what is happening here). In my experience with Norton, after a couple months, it stopped me scanning my computer or doing any checks on it, it completely stopped Java, and refused to download safe files such as Open Office. As soon as I deleted it, Java worked again, as long as you don't go on dodgy websites or download things you are unaware of, you shouldn't need anti virus, it just slows down your computer.
