Salute all. I have been reading some on-line articles and trying to learn as much as I can as I accumulate funds for having my new system built. It would really help me if those of you who are running FB/AEP at Perfect would post your system specs. If possible in as much detail as possible. An idea of how much it cost would help too. Thanks.

I run at perfectr all the time.

System:

P4 2.8@3.5, Abit MaxIII, 1GB Kingston Hyperx PC4000. ATI 9800XT@450 clock-400 mem.

Granted, if you are not into overclocking you will have to get better stuff than what I have, and better stuff is available now.

Umm, I bought it about 8 months ago and payed 1300ish for it (the parts for it, from newegg.com) I think...

The only thing I'd change is I'd drop an extra 35 bucks and get the turtle beach santa cruz OEM sound card from newegg.com

The crusty SBLive value I have right now that I salvaged has caused minor sound problems in IL2FB and the occasional crash.

My system was as good as I could get 4 months ago but already showing signs of becoming 'old hat'....sigh... guess that's the way it is with computers, right?

Anyway, here goes:

I run perfect at 1280 x 960 32 bit on a 21 inch Mitsubishi DP2070SB crt monitor.

My OS is Win XP pro with all updates. Specs are as follows:

Motherboard - Intel D875PBZ
Processor - Intel P4 3.4GHz 800FSB
RAM - 2 Gig Hynix PC3200 (DDR 400)
Graphics - ASUS V9980 FX5950 Ultra 256MB
Sound - Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS

I am currently using driver 56.72 for graphics.

Everything works sweet, no issues.

Best regards,

I can run either machine in perfect, they BOTH still hit LOW spots in black death, 19-22 fps at 2 different points. 14 in one spot at 1600 x 12

I have vsynch on and I get a solid 55-60 fps with either machine at 1280 x 960, 32 bit with vsynch, 6xAA and 8X AF. I cant see the small things weel enough at 1600 x 1200 so i dont use it. at 1600 x 1200 there is still some very rare stutter. usually ove hugecities with many planes in the sky and werecks smoking on the ground.

I imagine if I had the cash for a decent motherboard and an athlon64 the stutter would go away.

my reccomendation for you is this:

radeon 9800pro or nv fx 5900 128 meg. since youre on budget. - 200.00
1 gb corsair value select ddr400 - 180.00
abit or msi motherboard with via chip - 110.00
athlon64 3500+ 290.00 rtl with fan
Sony dvd rw +r -rw -r cdrw 70.00
case 40.00
500 watt antec or enermax psu 100.00
80 gb seagate sata hard drive 82.00
sony 1.44 fdd 8.00

total 1080 sans speakers, monitor, keyboard, mouse and joystick.

dont worry about pci express UNLESS you plan on dropping big dollars for a sli setup. pcix 16x vs agp 8x difference is negligable.

sata is better than ide though.

I think at this point I have probably settled on an AMD 64 3200+, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, a gig of PC3200 DDR RAM, and on the mb, I don't know yet, maybe the Asus N78X. I believe that I could run the sim at Perfect with this configuration. I realize there are still some blanks here but I feel like I am getting closer.

I am running an older machine that used to have a ti 4600, that died, and I went back to my GF3ti 200, but last week I picked up a 6800, and now I am on perfect with 2xAA and 4x AF at 1280x960

P4 2.8 GHz
(ran well on 2.2 GHZ as well with this card)
1024 PC800 RAM
GeForce 6800
SB Live Audio

Take a look at this page with black death benchmark info that I did using a few configurations and CPU's in my machine.

Mortoma. . . take a look at the link I posted. . . you will see that the video card alone made a HUGE difference despite my somewhat aged machine.

I upgraded my GF 3 ti200 to a Gainward Ti4600 back in original IL-2 and didn't notice a profound difference. I could run the EXACT same settings (medium), but instead of 1280x960 res I could run at 1600x1200 with the ti4600 ( I used no AA and 2-4x AF). That card died on me and I got a credit. . . I waited two years and applied it to the 6800. Now that was an upgrade. Here is a snippet of what I linked above.

With 2.2GHz P4 and Ti200:

Settings:
2x Anti-aliasing, 2x Anisotropic Filtering
Image Quality slider=Quality,
Vsync is off,
Digital Vibrance is on Low

In Game Video Mode:
1280x960x32 FUll Screen
Attempt Stencil Buffer enabled
Open GL
In Game Graphics settings: -->
Excellent (simple)
Advanced->
High,
High,
Excellent,
Excellent,
Excellent,
Detailed Clouds
Black Death Track no manual view or time, benchmark recorded from time 0:12 to 2:35 of the track

Frames: 1264 - Time: 142952ms - Avg: 8.842 - Min: 4 - Max: 18

**************

Now using the same machine but with the eVGA 6800 (nVidia FX 6800)

These are the same settings as above except I went up to Perfect mode to keep the pressure on (in the black death track this is pretty intense).

Settings:
2x Anti-aliasing, 2x Anisotropic Filtering
Image Quality slider=Quality,
Vsync is off,
Digital Vibrance is on Low

In Game Video Mode:
1280x960x32 Full Screen
Attempt Stencil Buffer enabled
Open GL
In Game Graphics settings: -->
Excellent (simple)
Advanced->
High,
High,
Excellent,
Excellent,
Perfect,
Detailed Clouds

Frames: 6343 - Time: 306056ms - Avg: 20.725 - Min: 4 - Max: 54

In complex online maps I average twice that.

With my new P4 2.8 GHz CPU I just added in, on the same tests as above, I get:

Standard clock on 6800 (325/700):

Frames: 3820 - Time: 143095ms - Avg: 26.696 - Min: 6 - Max: 63

Overclocked 6800 (403/855):

Frames: 4074 - Time: 142963ms - Avg: 28.497 - Min: 8 - Max: 69

With this overclock you can see that my CPU is really limiting things. . . so a lesser card might get near the same performance at these settings. . . but at higher AA and AF settigns this card will still have some room to muscle up a bit. I jsut haven't tried those settigns yet.

Oh yeah and get the new version of Fraps for a simple yet cool benching tool (outputs data into spreadsheet form, and simple notepad form as seen here).

This Thread is only partialy useful guys. Without some good Benchmark logs like Dragon posted, it is just not valid. Fraps is a great way to post info with all your in game and Video settings with all FPS numbers.

The problem is that just saying "I run perfect all the time" is not relevant. I have seen guys say "I run perfect and its smooth as silk". Only to find out later their average fps is like 20-25 fps using No AA or Aniso!

What one person might think is smooth as silk might be another persons stutter he11. There is also a huge diff in image quality settings. Some may have no prob at all running water=0 and forest=0 with no AA or aniso. Another person might find this totally unexceptable.

Here are some of my fraps examples: Fraps log run from :05 to 2:30

-----------------------------------------------

Ok, the 9800XT is overclocked to 453/385
and the sliders are all on the performance setting.
Not using custom settings.

The CPU is overclocked to 3.488.

The game setup is for default ATI RADEON 98**
with bilinear filtering.

All the (in) game settings are for the highest
setting (excellent) and perfect landscape settings.

I score 7360-7400 on the 3D Mark 2003
and typically get 60+ fps average
in perfect mode, all details maxed out
running 1200x1600 32bit.

Down low over cities it slows a bit, rarely below
20fps in the worst congestion.
But in a dogfight it's in the 70-100 most of the time
spiking to over 200 ocasionally.

I hope this helps.

Perfect's always on, 'cos I hate the really low visible range of excellent. Perfect's ~40km while Excellent just shows ~15km of terrain...

Too bad, dots, both ground targets and planes are HARDLY visible http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/10.gif. Looks like a bug with Stencil buffer - forcing 16bit z-buffer and disabling SB will show the dots correctly. That bug exists since AEP... but I won't disable Perfect for that http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

Now my specs:
AMD Barton 2500+ @ 166*12,5 -> 2800+
2x 512MB of PC333 Infineon CL 2.5 RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 @ 360/320

Forest=3
Water=0 (too bad they dropped the original FB water... it had the reflections, but lacked the shore stuff and it was much faster)

Runs quite well, rarely drops below 30fps.

That sounds like a smoking machine. Right now I have a 2 yr old AMD xp2000+, 1 gig ddr, 120 gig HD and a old gforce3 ti200pro 128. Just ordered a Asus K8V SE Deluxe MB and a AMD 64 bit 3000+ that will be here on friday. Right now in war clouds server I average 30 FPS with med to high settings, I hope this new set up get 50+. Ohh and yes I am gonna run that old work horse vid card till the 6800's drop a little more. Will be interesting to see how it works with that fast CPU.
