Anybody else going to the big show in Midland Texas this year (sept27,28)? I went last year and it was spectatular. They had just about every WWII fight & bomber flying there, plus the USAF comes out and displays their new stuff. I believes it's the biggest one in the nation

Another Victory for the Politically Correct Demagogues in the U.S.

The Confederate Air Force, a fantastic organization of combat aviation historical-preservationists for a half century, have had to change their name to "Commemorative Air Force".

Any use of the word 'confederate', 'confederacy', or visible reference to the southern political/military side of the US Civil War is being erased by the Political Correctness Gestapo, ridiculous fools that they are....

But,in any event, the CAF airshows are great!

You're in luck. The Canadian Aerobatics Team "The Snowbirds" will be there with their drastically underpowered and archaic Tudor Jets. Wooo hooo.

Where are the Blue Angels when you need them.

I noticed that a few weeks ago, Wiley. BTW, if you look at the link, it still says Confederateairforce.com. At least they still have that, thankfully.

Yeah! G-d-damned n*****lovers! They ruin everything.

(/irony)

If you can't understand why the old name alienates some people, I won't bother trying to explain here.

I've never seen the CAF live but have thought it was way cool ever since I heard of it (and saw the pics) as a boy. I'm glad it's still going and happy it has a name that will maximise its appeal.

I sat in one about 30 years ago at the CNE in Toronto. Geez, maybe it's about time the taxpayers sprung for new planes. That's like the Blue Angels still flying Skyhawks.

Anyone, to keep this on-topic, How many planes does the CAF now have? How many flyable?

I never saw the Blue Angels while they were flying their A-4s, but I wish they were still flying the F-11 Tigers I first saw them in - those were such elegant looking planes, and with the lower speeds they stayed within view all the time and it made for a better show in many ways (IMHO) than many of the faster/more modern planes they've used since (I particularly remember their stint in F-4 Phantoms - seemed like they spent 50% of the time out of sight after completing their maneuvers, it took so long to turn those beasts around, form up and come back).

Haven't ever seen the Canadian team, but I bet they do fine in their Tudors.

Wir sind die schwarzen Husaren der Luft,
Die Stukas, die Stukas, die Stukas.

... "Stuka-Lied"

I respect them for making the name change, and by far, the new name is FAR more fitting that "confederate."

BTW, no one "made" them change their name, they chose to do it themselves.

Check out the C.A.F.'s website and look at news releases. You'll find NR#01-1207 that explains the name change. The membership itself decided the change more accurately reflects the mission of perserving and maintaining historic aircraft.

Oberst, are facts too much to take? If they chose to do it themselves, why can't you respect their decision?

Oh mein Gott, if I could afford the trip I would go, I heard of the Confederate Air Force a long time ago and these guys are great to keep on flying WW2 aircraft in their shows, anyway they have my admiration.

The only WW2 Aircraft that I managed to see up close was a Lancaster flying at a low altitude over my place, this was really something to see.
