Here's why I'll probably never risk getting an ATI card:

Because I play a LOT of older flight sims such as SDOE, EAW, WW2Fighters, etc. and the ATI cards typically display graphic anomolies like fog, font blurring, etc. with these games. It's a shame, I know, but that's my truth... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

I've ridden the rocking boat that IS Nvidia for a long time. My 5900 Ultra wasn't as good as the crop of 9800 cards, but was still a great card. I'll stick with the 6800 and see what happens. I'm only waiting for them to release it publicly. I'll let you know.

I'll probably go with ATI. OpenGL is slightly slower, AA is better, uses only one aux power connector, runs cooler and quieter, beats Nvidia in most specs, and I don't care about the Shader 3.0 spec.

There is something "fishy" about Nalu. Currently I'm using the ATI 9800 with good success.

Neither. Both are transitional designs. I'll upgrade when pci express has been out for a few months. They are driving down the price of older cards - where ati is clearly dominant.

Much too early for me to decide. I will wait until I see some of posts here and how each card plays for FB. Only reason I have a high end video card is this sim..

I'll go with the chick with legs, more functional indeed http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

As for the graphics card I don't know yet, I guess I'll stick to my Rad 9600pro for a while!

If you do your homework and aren't rich or geeky enough to spend $350 on the top-of-the-line card, right now the best value is the nvidia 5900[/b]FX[/b].

Half the price of a 5950 and at stock speeds beats or matches 9800pro and keeps the 256 bus. It's overclockable to compete even with a 5950! Only thing is it uses 128mb DDR instead of the faster DDRII but whoopie unless you want to spend $175 more for 5-10fps.

Hands down the best bang for the buck for the midrange gamer. After a lot of research I picked up the MSI version for what was available to me here in Canada from my sources for $189 (no tax http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif). A 5950 or 9800XT runs around the $600+ mark.

As for the cartoons above, well if you're into the whole cartoon-as-a-sex-object thing then well, I guess you don't get out much and can afford a 9800XT or 5950. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

And the winner is.........The FIC ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB. We compared these cards in every category we could think of and in the end, we saw better performance overall from the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. Did the FX 5900 fail to impress us? No, not at all. We believe both cards are worthy of any good system but we do have to tip our hats to the excellent performance that the Radeon 9800 Pro has showed us here today.

I just thought I'd point out that the 6800GT, Nvidia's $400 offering, is a single slot, single molex solution just like the X800 Pro. It's also faster than the Pro in almost everytest.

The problem is, the only next gen test we've got is FarCry and it just doesn't like the nvidia cards. I wan to see HL2 and Doom3 benches on retail cards with retail drivers before make a decision.

Nvidia for me... I get enough of computer problems at work, I need something that just works. If you have the time & energy to deal with ATi's "new driver for each month" policy, go right ahead.

I'm going to stay clear of a new gfx card update until the R500 mystery is over and we know when ATI plans on introducing it's gen-next GPU. I also wanna wait until we have some HL2 & DIII benchmarks. I'd prefer the ATI sol because I like the single-slot, low power consumption design, and the max fps rock on the XT PE.

Yes the nVidia cards may be better atm but the 9800pro is old and the 5950 is much newer so you cant compare with both makes

Not being any brand name's b1tch, I don't take sides in fanboy debates so ATI or nVidia matter little to me.

With that said, the 5900XT beats out the 9800pro in most benchmarks or comes close enough not to justify the extra $30-$40. The 5900XT can be overclocked much easier and even bios flashed to a 5950 (of course this won't magically give it DDRII memory http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif).

The extra cake wasn't a few more FPS here or there for me but the 9800pro is a decent card no doubt.

Oh and for the guy wanting to know who the guitar players are in my avatar they are most certainly not out of Spinal Tap be sure.

Angus Young, Jimi Hendrix, Dave Gilmour, Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen.

I just bought a 9600XT and am very satisfied with the performance and the price. I figured I'd have to purchase a new computer when BOB comes out anyway in a couple years, so why spend many hundreds of dollars to upgrade to the highest end cards, when by the time BOB comes out, they will be obsolete anyway. The 9600XT is under $200 in allot of places, and it renders perfect settings and smooth frame rates wonderfully.

I was going to go with a higher end Nvidia card since Nvidia is what I have always used in the past, but I was warned by many knowledgeable techs that Dell computers have problems handling the higher end Nvidia cards. Something about allot of IRQ conflicts. I took their advice and went with ATI and am glad I did. But I can't honestly knock Nvidia's higher end cards because I've never used them. I was using a Nvidia GF4 420MX before the 9600XT and as of this time, I am an ATI convert.

Also, for those looking to purchase a new high end card at a reasonable (cheap) price, go to www.ati.com (http://www.ati.com) and check out their "Trade Up" program. You can get a 9800 Pro for $150 after they credit your credit card $50 for your old card. As of yesterday, they only had 4 cards available in their trade up program and this 9800 Pro was one of them.
