View Full Version : Why do we love this game?

Personally i think this game gives me an idea of how to controll a plane in reality.

I only says that it gives me an "idea" it is not the real world, by all means.

The day is not complet without a mission or two in my campaign as a world war II pilot.

yep - the immersion - which is helped by the other great things - the excellent atmosphere( sun sets - early moringn mist etc etc) and incredible attention to detail - men running from truckjs when strafed, all moving parts on planes - and damage and flight models. not to mention the myriad of adventures and scrapes you can get up to within the game ! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

We love it cause...I don't know!
But isn't this always happening with love?
Do you know why you love something?
You just love it. End.

It's not that there aren't any other good games, it's not that we don't have anything else to do than playing for hours with FB, it's not that we have the greatest community nor that we get this "flying feeling".

It's just that...we love it.

At least one reason for loving IL2 FB is that it is clearly best of it's kind.

Rest of the reasons fall in the category of "unexplained love" mentioned above.

I was playing mission two in a campaign as a Russian. Flying an I-16. We flew a fighter sweep and we didn't find anything. 30 minutes or so of flying without firing a single shot.

Then, as I was trying to keep up with the squadron on the return to base, I pulled a few too many negative Gs and wound up gliding to a landing on a road. I figured my virtual squadmates were giving my virtual self a real ribbing over vodka once I showed up back at base. :-)

Doesn't sound too cool, but I'm reading a memoir (An Ace of the Eighth by Bud Fortier) by an old US fighter jockey and lots of the recollections about the missions are about mechanical failures, bad weather forching you back, and never seeing an enemy fighter during the whole trip. So FB is so real that sometimes you don't get to fight.

I love it for allowing me to live vicariously and experience some of the things I've always wanted to do in the most realistic fashion possible.

I love it for a number of reasons. 1st, I've never fought with or against Soviet WWII aircraft til il-2 came out. It has taught me quite alot about the VVS. Second, the realism. Third the vastness, you can fly for hours if you choose on these maps and continue to find new paces.

For all of the reasons stated before and this. I am confined to my home a great deal due to injury. It takes something special to make me forget the pain for awhile.
For hours at a time I am transported to a different time and place that is so well done that I become upset when a squad mate is lost in battle(who else is going to cover my 6)
So, inspite of the flaws, the bugs, and all I wish were included in the game, Thank you Oleg and crew! I know its only an escape but damn its a fun one.

Simply because it does so many things right and is the best sim out there at the moment. Also it gets support and upgrades and you can actually converse with the developer.

This thread is about as original as a Coors light commercial. THAT was my point.

Where do we all live?

What do we all do for a living?

How old are we?

What do you like most about this game?

Why do we love this game?

First of all, you assume too much. Maybe we don't love this game? Maybe we love the old game but not this one? Maybe we don't like the same tired threads every 2 weeks?

As a amateur military historian, I read about air to air combat in books, built model aircraft and played aircraft board games, but this sim-it kinda gives you a feel for what these men did in those aircraft in WW2. How it must have been like to pit your skill vs another in the aerial arena. Luckly, we dont have to pay for our mistakes with our lives!

- What do you like most about this game?

That it's got both eye-candy and gameplay. So many games can't deliver both.

The eastern front wouldn't have been my first choice, but the planes feel so much better to fly than any other sim. It's a no brainer to choose FB.

SIMULATION!

The sound of the engines in flyby mode just ROCKS.
The style of the planes
The ability of the pilots to fly these planes with great ease unlike today's jets where most of the work is done by computers.
