The Pandemic Jungle inspired by Tom Clancy's The Division

Two weeks after Black Friday’s bioterrorism attack, twenty-two year old agent Mark Bradford and sister Gem are holed-up in the family home, and running out of supplies and ammunition. Forced onto the street, Mark and Gem fight their way through Brooklyn, as they try to link up with The Division.

"If I am gone, you take your sister and go find The Division, my dad said, he just never told me where they might be. When the brick shattered the living room window, the first thing I checked was his smartwatch, the 12 gauge shotgun, in the far corner of the room, I grabbed on the way out, duck-crawling beneath the windowsill, the glass shattering on my back, bullets pocking the walls, bricks thudding the pinewood floor on impact. ****, it was intense, the screaming, my name, my sister’s name – how did they know our names? That was when I realised, Gem wasn’t in the room. I pumped off a few shells, holding the shotgun above my head. It didn’t matter where I was aiming; it kept their heads down long enough that I could reach the door. Gem was on the other side, my slingpack in her hand, a Glock 18C in the other. I kissed her dirty forehead, promised it would be alright, pulled the door closed and pointed at the basement door."

This is my attempt at a story set within the world of The Division. If you are interested in reading the rest of Chapter 1 then please follow the link (http://blog.chrispaton.dk/#post3).

Thanks in advance for your interest. Everything indicates that The Division is going to be an epic game.

"Dad said there would be gangs, each with their own agenda, just trying to get by. The Division, he said, would have to be able to distinguish the good from the bad, they couldn’t possibly take them all on, quick judgement and a cool head would be the key strategy on the street. These guys were well-armed, they had discipline, I just couldn’t figure out their motivation, not until the first man popped the rear door."

Thanks again for the feedback. Apologies if it feels like "one day at a time" but it actually is - I am writing one chapter each day. Glad to hear people are enjoying it. Here is chapter 3.

"As I sorted through the rope, Cyalume light sticks, notebook with a pencil taped to the side – gaffa is wonderful stuff – I figured I had enough gear to get me through a round of initiatives at a boy scout camp and little else. I was short on food, had no weapon system to speak off, just a rusty metal railing. Gem would laugh at that."

It would be very cool if the devs could include this story into a mission or two in some way...

Yes, very cool, but unlikely. :) I have just finished Chapter 6 and will post it when I have had a chance to look it through.

“You didn’t recruit me to be nice, boss. You said yourself, you remind us every day, that the decisions we make on the street ain’t easy. There’s no right or wrong, just a better than. They push, we push back. Some days we gain a little, others… Well, we slide right back to where we started."

Chapter 6. Priorities.

Have you thought about asking devs if they want to make it optional for digital downloads to include your whole story with it? with your name etc ofcourse :) There are a lot of people that would enjoy reading it. I know it's unlikely but it won't happen for 100% sure if you don't try :P

Really appreciate your encouraging words, guys. Glad somebody is enjoying my story. I have three chapters left - there will be ten in all. Right now, I have to get Gem and Mark out of a serious firefight before they can hook up with the rest of the team. I am pretty sure it is going to be a rough ride.

As for contacting the Devs etc., I think I will wait until I have finished the story, it will be around 25,000 words, about 100 pages or so. After that I will figure out what to do with it.

Thanks again. Really appreciate it!

Thank goodness you finally posted Chapter 8. I've been checking nonstop to see if you posted it. I read chapters 1-7 and I was hooked lol. You really should send this over to the developers to see if they could incorporate it within the game.

Do you write anything else, or was this your first time? I would love to read some of your other work if you have some.

Thanks for your comment Doc_Holiday3-7, really made my day.

Chapter 9 is in progress, and it is going to be a rough ride. As for other stuff I have written - lots in development samples of which I have uploaded to my website. Still working on my début novel. Writing The pandemic Jungle has been an enjoyable distraction.

Thanks again.

Have a great day!

Hey really liked the writing man!

Only thing that I would have liked to see is the introspective, emotional parts moved from the action scenes to afterwards when they are safe somewhere reflecting. For example, in chapter 1, the sister has an emotional breakdown over the parents, but it was distracting, because they were in danger and I was just yelling, "GET OUT OF THERE FOR CHRIST'S SAKES!"

@ Doc_Holiday3-7 Thanks for your feedback and encouragement. Always appreciated, gives me energy to keep going with the last chapter. :D

@MistyParachute9 Great to hear from you, pleased you are enjoying the story. I also really appreciate your feedback - it makes sense and I will be sure to look out for that kind of thing. Thanks!

Chapter 10, the last one... coming soon. Got to get it done before the start/continuation of my next/ongoing project. Writing The Pandemic Jungle has been an interesting and energizing diversion from my other projects. Thanks again for all your encouragement and feedback!

That's it. It's done. Ten chapters, about 115 book pages. It's done.

All that is left to do now is wait until the release of the game!

Awsome, i read the whole thing.

Every time i thought of something that could improve the story, make it more realikstic, i found that you'd already come up with your own idea!

I also like how you cleverly worked in some of the game mechanics into the story. Such as the orange ghosts and Gems' bio locator.

If i had any criticisms atall it would be that the story didnt always feel realistic. Its probably hard to tipify realism considering none of us have ever gone through that kind of battle trauma. And thank goodness for that.

All in all, a good story.

Hi CellSpinter555

Thanks for your comments. It has - obviously - been a while since I last logged in, so great to see a response. As the game gets closer to release, I feel like revisiting the story.

In the meantime, I have changed some links and things. So, if anyone is looking to read The Pandemic Jungle, you can always find it on Wattpad (https://www.wattpad.com/myworks/20396908-the-pandemic-jungle).
