I've done it. I've bombed enemy bases and airfields, but what's the point? What exactly does it do?

Speaking specifically about the FB (non aces) server US vs Japan or whatever it is, it even says bombing is recommended. So that's what I did. I bombed an enemy airfield.

Does bombing in a dogfight server do anything? Affect anything? Or is it just a fun little 'extra' to vacation from the ceaseless fighter dogfighting?

Its a realistic activity, and you stand to reap large rewards (if you land a large bomb near three or four enemy acs taxiing around.

Its really fun, too, and it encourages your team to act as a team and escort you, or at least bounce the baddies that attack you, and if you actually survive (you almost never do), it feels like a much larger accomplishment.

There is not a more satisfying kill you can make than dropping a 500 pounder into someone's windsheild.

Oh ok, it's only effective if you hit someone. Doesn't do anything to the runway or otherwise hinder the enemy team though? Doesn't prevent them from landing/taking off due to cratered runway, hurt their refueling/rearming etc.?

If an enemy plane (player) has to be there, then it's really not useful like I thought. Fun oh yeah, but not strategically useful.

No use at all to do that. In case u love hazard moves and decide to execute bomb run on enemy airfield while enemy A/C's taking off, like FI-Aflak says, it may pay off. But be sure if u run on low speed(-400kmh), good chances are you'll end up in crate (if enemy AA hasn't been disabled).

I would not reccomend it. You may try it offline and see that it is pretty difficult. In a bomber (He-111, TB3) impossible on lower alts, AA will get u. However if u disable AA you will get significant advantage, 'cause you can strafe enemy A/C's without being afraid of AA. You are to decide.

As far as disabling airfield or something like that, it's not gonna happen, I see some previous 'Bombing Airfield' threads and Tully says that it would take a lot of programming to do that. Current runways haven't got any damage model at all. If this feature does not appear in BoB, than that game will be just a bad joke, 'cause whole Luftwaffe tactic was based on bombing RAF airfields in order to disble 'em.

Bombing. It's a blast! Also rockets are lots of fun. I evean like it when Im on the runway taking off. A bomb goes off near my plane and I get splatter dammage, cracks in the windsheild,
holes in the wings, great stuff.

One time I got bomb splatterd as I was taking off. At first the plane felt ok, after a few seconds it kinda went klunk, and the right wheel rolled down the runway in front of me. I veired to the right with a little spin as the gear leg broke off. I sat there for a minute, poped the top and walked away. Thats when I knew I was hooked on this game.

pfft, bombing is silly, vulching is where its at http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I do agree bombing is very fun, but I would LOVE to see an "attach/detach" button (not for the mistel) for bombing online. As soon as you connect to the server, it lists all the planes that are "attachable", and you become one of their gunners. You can cycle thru the gun positions and you skip over the ones that are already taken.

Now i'm new here, and i wouldn't be suprised if thats already been suggested and shunned down, but i would love to fly a TB3 thats completely manned by humans.

There is a point on some online scripted maps: Smashing the static aeroplanes removes planes from the enemy's plane pool, in effect speeding up your side's victory. You can also bomb the AA in order to allow more effective vulching for either yourself or your comrades.

However, some scripted servers place the entire plane set on the map in order to speed loading times, and bombing those static planes will get you booted and/or banned.

Bombing enemy bases (heck even vulturing fighters on takeoff) can be immensely fun and challenging for both sides when the server is setup properly.

Firstly, the two bases have to be a distance apart enough to allow effective combat air patrol to intercept incoming attacks.

Secondly, the bases need targets. Parked aircraft, vehicles, fuel trucks, buildings, tree's, and most importantly are the AAA defenses. Nobody likes to be vultured and its no fun if one plane can shut down an entire base for minutes at a time. Thats boring and prohibitively annoying. What is interesting is when a small (and possibly ravaged) group manages to sneak past the defenses and launch the assault. They may only be able to make a single pass before the AAA nails them or defending fighters get them but it makes for a heck of a scene.

So many servers rob themselves of these moments. Especially when teamwork is absolutely required to launch the attack.
