This is for my UK cousins for whom I've always had great admiration.

As in real life, the Spitfire is a glorious aircraft. Gents, she flies twice as good as she looks. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

As for the competition, she's a 190/109 killer. While the US 50cals very much appear to be toned down, the lil' .303's are much stronger than in the past versions. One decent burst of MG's only and all variants of the 190 brew up instantly.

The short of it is that once this thoroughbred gets on someone's 6, their moments are numbered. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Hope you chaps don't have to wait much longer. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

We got one of the slow Spits, and it's still pretty good. The IX and XIV are going to be bad news for the LW.

The XIV will be more than just "bad" news for the LW since they have nuthin to compete in summer '44 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

Actually, in the beginning of 1945, the German said that the only good thing with the Mk XIV was that there were so few available in the Netherlands ...

I dont think so even now the zero gets a ruff time from planes like the p40 so with the extra speed of the spitfire the zero is still going to be dead meat.

During 2 Japanese Air Raids on Darwin in 1942, the RAAF lost 17 of its 22 Spitfires.
The Japanese lost a single bomber.
We are actualy currently in the process of re creating these Historic Bombing Raids, for the Empire of the Sun series.

The Missions are being recreated as close as possible to real life.
The Jap bombers cruise climbed from the Island of Timor all the way to the target, by the time they reached Darwin they where at 30,000 ft with their Zero escorts.
The Japs bombed very accuratly from High altitudes.
The Spitfires scrambled and clawed desperatly for altitude, but this was not Europe!
The Zeros where waiting for them!

So if I understand you correctly (and I do) the zero was not better than the spitfire just higher http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I am very familar with the war over Australia and if you research some more you will see that the even the slower p40's of the US sent to Australia did very well against the zero's so long as it engaged on it's own terms namely with the advantage of altitude then B&Z.

As soon as the RAAF stoped turning with the japs any advantage the zero had was eliminated (apart from being at a greater alt).

Also you dont mention all the reasons for the RAAF's early failures to do it's job, much of problem was with poor early warning and it's pilots lack of combat experiance against zero's not just the spitfire's shortcomings

Never the Less,
You will have to be a brave soul to fly in this Historicaly accurate Empire of the Sun, Historical Coop.
When the Air Gets thin, it should get interesting.
We are creating Missions for all over the Pacific region where we have aircraft types available.

Some Examples.
Wake Island, The fall of Singapore, Darwin, Operation C the Indian Ocean Raids by the IJN, New Guinea campaign, etc.
Should be fun, and will post when they are ready.

We'll bravely face the might of the Luftwaffe's Fw-190s and the Japanese Zeros in our Spitfire V. Rumour has it that a new Spitfire is being produced that uses the new Lancaster's engine.

I have to say, I love the new Mk V, but it is certainly making me hunger for the MK IX. The V is just a bit too slow for the big dogs, but turns awesome. Mk IX is my favorite Spitfire and I'll be a two-plane man once they get here.

Mmmmm.....LA7 and Spit Mk IX.....perfect together.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

We have G-6/AS. It appeared at the same time as Spit XIVs, and I think a well flown G-6/AS will beat the Spit anytime. They arent as good in the vertical as 109s, not to mention there was serious weight increase during the Spit development, so handling will be certainly not as good as Mk Vs. But in real life, the MkXIV was a very rare plane, there were actually fewer of them in service than Me 262... Hmm, which BTW, saw service about the same time. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

BoB was won primarily by radar, and secondly by the lack of range of the LW fighters. More 109's ran outa fuel and dumped in the english channel then were actually shot down. . . If it was FB though, i guess you still get credit for the kill http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif

I don't see how you could be disappointed with the AEP Spits - they look great, they 'feel' great, they fly great. And they really put the hurt on other planes. The combination of .303s and Hizookas is surprisingly effective - enough ammo to spray around .303s hoping for lucky engine/pilot hits as you would in a HurriI/IIb, and the power to really mess 'em up when you're sure of a cannon shot. Really like it.

Between the MkV/LFCW and the IAR81 I'm not sure which is my favorite in AEP yet, but damn, I can't seem to stop flying either of 'em :>

Sex in metal. ha, ha . I like it. Nice to hear Clint-Ruin likes it too- must be good!

I`ve been practising drawing a Spit for when the UK AEP comes out. I don`t need to practise for drawing any pic normally (hmm, does that sound a bit big-headed? oh well), but damn those wings are hard to get right! Draw them even slightly off their elliptical shape and they look terrible! It really is the wings that give them their beauty!

It will be interesting to see how much realism can be created in FB out side of your useual DF server.
The Spitfires where great short ranged point interceptors for local Defense.
Aircraft like the Zero where extreme long range highly manouverable tactical fighters.

We will certainly be testing the limits, in the Empire of the Sun Series.

Nice! Could you include a blank version, and/or some 616 sqn planes? (Bader's wing was comprised of 145, 616, and I forget the other squadron)

I will include an unmarked version when done, will also do a grey green variant as well.. still waiting for aces at the moment, getting it tested through msn messenger by good friend in canada then adjusting it accordingly http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif That is Baders plane BTW

Wow... that's dedication! BTW, just for conversation's sake, Bader usually flew a Mk Va with the 8 303's. Apparently he felt that 20mm cannon made pilots open up at a greater range than they should. Maybe he flew a Mk.Vb to test this theory? (Although from what I've heard of the man, probably not!)

You are correct, but i dont have a template for that so using it as a building block to work out marking sizes etc and how bad the dire distortion is, Hammerd has said he thinks he is gonna pass on skinning this till the next version is released, as i think a lot of others will, but as a Brit i will struggle on against the odds to bring a few skins out for it......as for the "Still waiting for aces at the moment, getting it tested through msn messenger by good friend in canada then adjusting it accordingly" my first 3 or 4 skins for the P40 was done before i owned FB too and some of I16fans excellent skins I test flew them for him, took the relevent pictures so he could correct the mapping of them etc when his FB was playing up http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gifhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
