1. Torgue effect will be in any case on P-38, but has other character.

2. DirectX hasn't many features that are possible in OpenGl. Its why Perfect is working only in OpenGl.

Curtiss P-36:

The confusion lies in this:

Army assignment of Model Numbers instead of "P-" changed a few times.

Essentially, the P-36 is a Model 75 with a P&W R-1830 Twin Wasp radial rated at 900 hp.

The Model 75 had a Wright XR 1670 two row radial rated at 900 hp. The Wright engine was considered unsatisfactory. A P&W R-1535 at 700 hp was the replacement, and in turn was replaced by another Wright radial! This 950 hp rated version was the Model 75B.

The Model 75B lost out to the Seversky (later, Republic) P-35.

The P-36 was purchased by the Army despite the P-35 winning the USAAC trials.

The P-36 was also used as a testbed for the XP-42 and the XP-40

The Hawk 75 was the export version of the Model 75.

Confused yet?

There's more on the what and why of the P-35/P-36 thing in the History section at the Curtiss-Wright homepage.

www.curtisswright.com/history/1934-1941.asp (http://www.curtisswright.com/history/1934-1941.asp)

Lots of those pages to see, btw. Interesting stuff.

Seversky won what was a close competition where both entries didn't meet the target and was contracted for 75 planes. C-W got the nod later as they had the resources to outproduce Seversky and the P-36 had room for more engine where the P-35 did not.

The P-35 led to the P-47 while the P-36 led directly to the P-40. So who really won biggest? I think Seversky/Republic. He ended up with more time to design the better plane and how many of those were made? LOL!
