To the people of Madrid and other cities and villages across Spain:
While it can, in no way, lessen the tragic loss of life, how proud you should be of the statement made by you and the millions of your fellow Spaniards who jammed the streets Friday night to decry the terrorist acts.
May this be a beginning of the end for whatever cowards perpetrated these acts!
My prayers are with you.

Merlin - Either you did not understand or do not agree with the spirit in which my note was written.
I hope that it is the former. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I agree totally.

Something similar was done a few years back where thousands upon thousands marched to show their complete disapproval of ETAs campaign. Very moving stuff.

I hope that those responsible [whoever they might be] are found and tried. They certainly don't have many friends in the world at this point.

It is an atrocity redlte and it was my impression exactly when I saw them in the streets. What a display of unity and resolve. The Spanish have conviction and I'm honored with their friendship towards America.

To Spaniards and all other victims of terrorism worldwide: we know how you feel, sadness and anger. Join us in the fight against these cowards to make the world a safer place to live peacefully. This threat will not disappear by ignoring it. I'm glad our president is making a stand. The only way to defeat terrorists is to fight them.
The USA has done since the beginning of our history... Starting with defeating the Barbary pirates at Tripoli and now we will defeat these new terrorists.
Other countries may think Americans are too soft and afraid to sacrifice because that's what is shown in the news media but the average red-blooded American seeks justice. It's just un-american to sit and do nothing when innocent people are being murdered.

Thanks for your post redlte.

It was really moving to see so many people marching in the streets. Specially for us living abroad. An estimate of 11.5 million Spaniards marched in rallies around the country, with almost 2.5 million people in Madrid. Incredibly moving.

This is one of the chants from yesterday:
"We are not all here. We are missing 200"

It is not yet clear whether ETA or al-Qaeda was responsible for these attacks. When that is determined, the fight should be taken to the terrorists' front doors. Appeasing terrorists in 2004 is as unsuccessful as appeasing Hitler was in the 1930s.

Once again, my thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims.

Absolutely terrible and thoughtless thing to say, CDN_Merlin.

Anyway, my prayers and thoughts are with the victims of this crime.

Coalition forces have been knocking on that door since 9/11. My wife lost a very dear friend in the attack on the World Trade Center. My heart goes out to those in Spain that has lost loved ones in this senseless act of cowardess. Together, we will send them to **ll. Then they can have their 50 virgins. S!

Thank you all. I wasn't yesterday at the forums. After work, I was one of around 100.000 people who marched thru Cadiz main street. The bells of churches rang dead 199 times, one for every victim. It was really moving.

It is also a good idea of our government to offer immediate Spanish nationality to every inmigrant victim -most of them illegal- and their families. The reason is that someone has killed their beloved for being Spanish, so Spanish they are, if they want.

Hey, Merlin, most of integrism victims are not here in Occident. They are in integrist countries, millions that suffer amindst fear and terror the daily intolerance of their fanatic neighbours and rulers. Do you really want to nuke them? It is precisely what we need, more innocent victims, and useful martyrs for integrist cause.

And it isn't still clear who's the author. We can't forget that ETA tried this very same thing before Xmas. And there have always been tight connections among ETA and international terrorism. What has Al Qaeda to do with Spanish general elections -a typical ETA objective? A colaboration isn't out of conjecture.

Our hope is to counter this menace. If not, hard times are coming for all of us...

To all those from Spain
My heart and soul feels the pains as if it had happened to me.
I wish I could have walked with your country men,so I could have walked beside you in your time of grief to at least offer a shoulder to lean on and to show the force that will be working to find those cowardly rabid dogs that did it.
