View Full Version : Ju87 Dive Bombing- Bombs release prematurely

Fellow flyers,
Actually, I have two problems with dive bombing.
1.Sometimes the bombs release themselves. I'm careful not to touch the joystick button, so its not my finger hitting the weapon button. I'll dive to within about 2000' and the bombs just let loose.
2. Other times the plane levels out before I can release the bombs, and it won't let me go back into the dive. The A1 just seems to take over and stops the dive.
I've viewed the training demo for "Ju87 ground attacks" and read the Mudmovers article on dive bombing tactics. I use the airbrake and am pretty sure my angle is steep enough.
Any help please.I've always been fascinated by the Stuka and would like to get this tactic down.
Thanks in advance,
FlyAce

set your bombsight alt to 0m and it should not happen

You'll need to assign a key for that.

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge,
ye shall be judged: and with what
measure ye mete, it shall be measured
to you again.

I love the Ju-87 as well. Personally I set the alt. to about 525 meters. Any less than that(at least for me)you risk slamming into the ground.

also, give your bombs a one or two second delay if you plan to get real close before you drop them: they will hit and wait a bit before exploding so you can get out of the way before the shockwave blows various essential members off of your Stuka.

bomb delay may still be broken for ships tho :\

What you're describing is the "auto-dive pullout". It's an automatic mechanism created to make sure the plane pulls out of the dive in time, even if the pilot blacks out (which happened often). Since one of the patches (don't remember which one) you can adjust the auto-pullout altitude by using the "Increase/Decrease Bombsight Altitude" keys. Set this alt. the way you prefer it.
Oh BTW: This mechanism also releases the bombs before it pulls out of the dive. That's the reason you've been dropping your bombs without intent.

Here a short description how i do setup a dive bombing.

Set Bomb Release alt to 0 .

Fly in at 2 k or higher into direction of target .
Trimm Plane Rudder for accurate aim.

Look at the lower Window when you can see target location let it pass until its in the lower window part. then cut throttle hold course pull little up . Target in window has now passed it to the back . Deploy Dive Flaps roll on the back
and pull until you are on about 90 degrees dive correct a little early to be sure you land on the target later corrections bring problemns.
At about 500 m the alt warning siren starts .
Dont worry yet aquire target and release bombs(all bombs activates auto pullup). When Target is ahead of aim you need to correct aim about 5 to 10 m behind of target depends on speed. The Auto Pullup can safe you even under 300 m with help of pull back on stick. After you
are back in level flight retract airbrakes. And put throttle back in . stay low and fast and try to fly under aaa angle until you are out of danger zone .

Hyperion

What is the default altitude for the automatic bomb release/dive pullout?

I just dive, keep the sights on target, then let the auto release send the bomb. I have been very successful with this approach. If your dive angle is steep, like 80 degrees or so, and your pitch axis is parallel to the ground (very important), your accuracy should be excellent. You can aim directly at the target and the bombs will come very close.
