View Full Version : 110's campaign : bogus

First of all the 110 should be also available for "normal" German campaigns not only the 110 campaign alone, this sux

Second
The first battle of the 110 campaign (I think there are 3)

My airfield is near Novorossiysk (or something like that) and the first 3 planes to take off in my squad always go crash in the mountain near the airfield, which means really fast we only have 4 available planes, which means I am the ONLY one to reach the ground targets to destroy

thats REALLY annoying and it looks stupid to say the least

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

110s are dead to me until I can figure out how to start their damned engines.

To start the bf110:
First you select the left engine (just look in the controls option to find out what the key command is), then press the start engine key. Then you perform the same exercise for the right engine. Select all engines if you want to increase or decrease engine power for both engines at the same time. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Or just hit autopilot and they start for you. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Only works at takeoff though.

Stiglr, where do you get off with all your criticism of FB when you haven't even bothered to learn the sim well enough to start a multi-engine plane? It's not a very complicated process.

Makes the rest of us wonder how much 'in depth examination' the rest of what you gripe about gets. :P

I smell a wee bit of sarcasm in Stiglrs post. It works as well as always in this forum.

Agree completely, the 110:s crashing on takeoff is royally annoying. Notified Starshoy over at simhq but I didn't get a reply. Well he must surely be aware of this, so I bet it's getting fixed.

Guess the P-38, TB-3, He111 were also dead to you.

They start just like every other multi-engine aircraft in the game which is clearly explained in the manual. RTFM.

Select engine 1. Start
Select engine 2. Start
Select All engines.

I mean really, if you are going to whine about something put at least the minimal effort into solving your problem first.

Strange. I'm running the 110 campaign and my 1st three 110s don't crash. They all get off and underway fine.

I either start engines manually or use the autopilot. I'll even kick in autopilot after I takeoff just to catch up with the rest of the squad and then go back to manual control.

That may depend on the values you have set in your conf.ini for AirIntensity, MissionDistance, and RandomFlights. With a longer mission distance you will probably start from a different airbase, the other values should influence the amount of flights.

The main problem I had with that mission: There were 12 or 16 aircraft attacking, but all they had to attack were a group of four lonesome tanks! There were no other ground targets (except some ships with lots of AAA) in that mission. These tanks moved along a road -- at least for some minutes. But by the time my flight arrived they had stopped below the the static camera and were waiting to be destroyed. Our flight path towards the target was leading us directly over the harbour of Gelendzhik, where my AI comrades got decimated by the ship AAA.

That was the most stupid mission I had played in a while, and it was the first and last mission I played in that campaign.

Another thing that bothered me was that I had played exactly the same mission before: In a FW-190 campaign! Could it be they took that old Jabo campaign and sold it to us once more, labeling it as a Zerst├┬Ârer campaign?

Hello Luftcaca,

It's easy to incorporate the 110 into any existing "fighter" campaign, while it's as easy to expand the 110 campaign repertoire proper.

To achieve the former, open the "planes.dat" file which corresponds to the campaign for which you wish to fly the 110. For example, to activate the 110 for the 1944 Crimea campaign, access the "planesDeF.dat" file in the DGen folder, and append the line "BF_110G2" under the heading "[Crimea44]". (This file defines the campaigns under the rubric "German Fighter South".) The result should look similar to this:

[Crimea44]
BF_109G6
BF_109G6Late
FW_190A4
FW_190A5
FW_190A6
BF_110G2

To expand the current 110 campaign repertoire, in the DGen folder open the file "campaignsDeZ.dat", and append the line "Crimea44 Crimea 1944" so that it looks like this:

* BF-110.
Dynamic campaign for German BF-110 pilot.
Kuban43 Kuban 1943
Kursk Kursk
Prokhorovka Prokhorovka
Kubanlate43 Evacuation of Caucasus
Crimea44 Crimea 1944

Then append the following section to the "planesDeZ.dat" file (which defines the planes available to fly under the rubric "German Zerstorer Campaigns"):

[Crimea44]
BF_110G2

Cheers,

Greg

We can simply make a mission containing the object(s) we want to know how to name, as the text of .mis files will furnish the formal nomenclature for any given object - aircraft, trains, cars, buildings, sandbags, and Johnny-on-the-spot.

Note for expanding the aircraft rosters for campaign play: DGen doesn't recognize certain planes. Citing one of a few examples I know, the Go 229 can neither be flown by the player nor included amongst AI flights. Attempting either prevents the campaign from starting. (Consulting the DGen log files in the IL2 root directory has always revealed specifically the edit I did that botched a campaign - very useful.)

Cheers,

Greg

DonÔ┬┤t You know or didnÔ┬┤t You try if itÔ┬┤s possible, by editing any Dcampaigne file, to let the game load custom skins instead default ones for each plane! I didnÔ┬┤t check it yet, but it could be possible when BOE can do this!

Hi Mamal,

With the exception of Aces, I don't know that skins can be assigned to each plane, but even without BOE they can be assigned to individual units. This requires inserting a new section entitled "[Squadrons]" after the "[OOB]" section in the appropriate .db file:

[Squadrons]
5_1_FighterH BF_109G6 xxxxx1.bmp
hu2-4hu BF_109G6Late xxxxx2.bmp

Above stipulates that the two Hungarian units will always fly respectively early and late model 109 G6's which will always wear the skins, "xxxxx1" and "xxxxx2". Discreet summer and winter skins can also be ascribed, and for each case we can define whether or not markings are enabled.

And, to avoid confusion, the list posted above by Red_Storm isn't for DGen. Perhaps it's for NGen?

Cheers,

Greg

I know how to do this with summer skins, but I don't know how to do it with winter skins. What should the text look like in order to do this?

Hi Lukas,

The winter skin follows the summer, with one blank space between the two:

BF_109G6 summerskin.bmp winterskin.bmp

I think it only works on winter maps like Balaton, Moscow, etc. Otherwise it's ignored.

Cheers,

Greg

You had better results than the first mission of my 110 campaign... All of my squadron (save myself) flew into a factory smokestack on takeoff....
