Hi all,

I have just become aware that there is a formatting error for way-points generated through the way-points interface of Mission Mate with non English versions of MS Windows.

I am looking for someone to help test Mission Mate who has had problems and is using a non English version of windows (someone in Europe perhaps?).

If you are interested in helping I will provide you with the latest version of Mission Mate that is currently under development and will send you regular updates so that we may work together to solve this problem.

Please contact me at missionmate@msn.com if you are interested.

Your help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
CrazySchmidt. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

CrazySchmidt,

I have not taken a look at your mission Gen yet mainly because I am busy working on mine, UQMG (www.uberdemon.com (http://www.uberdemon.com)), which like yours, it is a QuickGen because I wanted more out of QMT (Take off, custom missions, all 43 maps, 100s of planes in a mission with a few clicks, ability to use it for coop and dogfights, etc). I've been developing it for over 3 years... In anyway, about 3 years ago I ran into the same type of problem. I use VB so hopefully you can apply this to your programming interface.

There will be two areas that this will get you:
- The fields in Windows, because of how commas and periods are interpreted in deifferent areas of the world (For example: 10,000,000.00 in the US is 10.000.000,00 elsewhere. (In 2001 I ran into this very problem... but it was not as simple as to just change the property in VB)
- How the text is written in the text mission file. If you are a programmer, I am willing to bet that you like math like me... so you program it and you think that it will work... well... unfortunately float numbers are also different in some countries, meaning even though you code it a certain way in your PC, it behaves very differently in a PC outside of the US. I learned this the hard way.

There is a way around it. Handle everything as strings (text streams in c++). So you will have to create functions that parse floating numbers (whole from fractionals) and then handle each as separate strings. You will have to convert back and forth because the only thing you will be able to rely on are the Interger data types. Those are safe. Finally you piece it all together and voila.

So... 104567.94 needs to be handled as 104567 as a long interger and 94 a byte. Add and subtract from them separately (accounting for spill-overs) then go back and re-assemble them... that does the trick.

An UQMG user in Israel helped me solve a problem with double byte character sets (unicode stuff). I literally had to revamp the code to account for those things because text is really handled easily by text fields... but ASCII does not necessarily handles it all, so unless you go back and use rich text boxes for everything, you have to be creative.

Hope this makes sense. Anyway, not sure if that is the issue but it sounds a lot like the type of stuff I ran into a while back.

Hey Uber.. Since we're at it.. Don't you need a tester for the user interface? I always liked your work but boys could it use some GUI straightening!

maxmars,

Send me an e-mail. Recently I changed some GUI things because of requests. I am open to suggestions. I just ask you to be specific as to what items you recommend a change in the GUI look/feel.

Keeping in mind that the "Real-Estate" can only fit so much because there are people using 800x600 resolution, and I use bold typeface as a request from the older users, please send comments to my e-mail uberdemon@uberdemon.com , since this is CrazySchmidt's thread. I have made many modifications based on the user requests. I'll be waiting for your E-mail.

Thanks to for the offers for help everyone.
I have found someone to help with testing.

uberweng, maxmars, if you don't mind at sometime in the future, I would like to take up your offer, just to make sure it's good on a broader range of systems.

Cheers,
