View Full Version : Dear Point Whiners and 'Steal Killers' - A Good Quote

quote by a ww2 pilot Roger Haberman:

"The number of kills was very secondary - you wanted to stay alive. This was true with Foss and everyone else. I led Foss's second section. He led eight and I led the back four. There wasnt any talk at all about whether he got twenty-two or nineteen or three. He comes down and talks to the intelligence people and they tally the score. But we were interested in none of that. You wanted to keep you and your buddies alive. I never heard a word about a Congressional Medal of Honor or any of that type of bull****. You're just interested in doing a journeyman job and staying in one piece. Any fighter pilot that was indulging in competition for numbers or having his flights set up to pad his kills was full of it. He had the wrong attitude. That's not the way to win a war. Your job is to get the job done and not count the damn chips. I am adamant on that. You were not there to get numbers, you are there to achieve your mission. I never heard Foss even mention it. Not Once. He'd brief intelligence and that was that. We were there to do the job and stay alive. That included fighting the Japanese. But the mission was first, and you couldn't do your mission if you were dead. "

Would be cool to see this attitude online wouldn't it?

I still think Oleg should reset your score to zero in a df server when you die!

Har har!

PLEASE! Reset the score to zero. What a brilliant idea!! I have now been flying around for quite some tima and I can notice things that are becomming more frequent. Someone is in a position that is hopeles, either the looser tries to ram someone or try to get someone on base with his (hers?) aircraft. Would love to see a reset to 0.

Good suggestion! Thank you Recon

I think theres a big difference between teamwork and kill stealing, if a plane is missing a wing or tail section falling to the ground then its kill stealing. If hes smoking and your both firing on him its teamwork. Or If hes slightly hit and i have a kill shot i will take it to prevent the plane from shooting a teamate if the guys slow at clearing someones tail

some people will call you a kill thief even if they didnt shoot the guy yet.

One good thing about being in a squad is flying as a team and not worrying about kills. We care about getting back in one peace and respecting our virtual 'life' - not scores.

Also we follow the Luftwaffe system quite closely so the pilot causing terminal damage to the target gets the kill. There are no 1/2 kills but no one ever has a problem with it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Just a shout of Horrido! over the comms and we carry on.

But everyone plays this "game" as they see fit - don't you think http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Absolutely right. Some great times have been actually when a pair of guys flying whatever planes (looks most spectacular in wing mounted .50cal aircraft) are pouring fire into the same aircraft at the same time. This isn't kill stealing...its co-ordinated firepower and its downright deadly.

Kill stealing is when the target plane is on fire, missing a wing, and out of control and some guy drops a couple of 20mm's in there.

If the target plane is still capable of fighting or potentially doing damage then by all means continue to pour on the firepower.

I would love to see your score set to zero when you die, that would be sweet.

As for kill stealing, it happens too often IMHO (once is too often). I don't care so much about not getting the kill as much as the fact that I know I'm now flying alongside self-serving idiots for wingmen. I'll saw the wing off of a plane and it will be spinning towards the ground and some a**hole will come along and shoot it with two rounds to get credit. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif Sometimes it is pathetic with 3 or 4 planes vertically diving at my destroyed target trying to get the last shot in. Seems like certain people do this consitently, others never do it. Please try to be one of the latter.

Yeah I've actually seen several guys collide going into a dive chasing after a already dead plane. Insane for sure!

I hear you loud and clear. As a Jug pilot, losing kills is the name of the game. I've sent dozes of Zeros and 109s hurtling toward earth a flaming wreck, only to see some ****** La driver give it one last plink.

I tend to fly Heinkel 111's and you do see the most amusing things from the top gun position if and when you get shot down in this type.

Today I was happily doing my thing on one of the servers where you tend not to see this stupidity so much and I inevitably got bounced and shot down on the way back from the target. Despite clearly going down out of control and with the starboard engine burning fiercely, some ****** decides he so badly wants the kill he ends up ramming me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

And for what ? Maybe 10 points and a pi**ed off teammate.
