It seems that most of the great Luftwaffe aces flew the bf109 even after the FW190 was in full use. Am I mistaken? Why didn't they move to the FW190?

Thanks!

Top 190 aces:

Otto Kittel 267 victories
Walter Nowotny 258 victories
Erich Rudorffer 222 victories (13 in single sortie, flying 190)
Heinz Baer 220 victories
Hermann Graf 212 victories
Walter Krupinski 203 victories

Of course, they scored many of these while flying 109, but majority came from 190 flying.

190 mostly fight on the westfront as a Fighter because the 109´s had problems against Spit´s.

On the Eastfront the 190´s were often used as Fighterbomber.
this Front was a "easy" for the LW for a long time because the russian tactic´s, Pilots, Fighters, equipment... wasn´t any good to deal with 109´s. Imagine that before 42´ the rusaian pilots cant communicate; they always have to look at the other. same belonged to the armored Forces which mostly drove in mass like wild Horses against well coordinated german Frontlines with only a few tanks.

So most Pilots who had only a few victories on the Westfront increases their kills rapidly when flying on the Eastfront.

Many Pilots flew 109´s and 190´s. But most of them began their career with the 109.
