View Full Version : Another track removed because of the offensive option

Why is it so easy to remove someone else's track?

Anyway, I just got a message from TischProSoccer that his latest track had been taken off track central. Track is called Master of Puppets.
Went to check and it's not in his track list.
Really getting tired of seeing this happen over and over again.

When TC does actually work...someone files complaints to get good tracks taken down just to be a$&@"*€. It stinks.

On the plus side, I was able to report a track as offensive for containing a swastika in it. So there's a positive side to the function when it isnt abused. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/wink.gif

True b-Fly but the point we are trying to make here, is that you surely are not the only one to get a complaint in before it gets yanked. That being said how many complaints does it take? Is it one complaint and yer out, or are there teams of people who buy GT's and work together to complain about good tracks? It's probably one sad $&@%# who is jealous and MAYBE gets one friend to chime help his cause... I think it should take several complaints IMHO.

Barrybarfly

I was just saying that there is a good reason for the actual function, but that its a shame its so abused. It has been stated before that people who misuse the function will have something noted against them......

I will restore your track the next time I am at my xbox.

Don't worry, if people keep flagging tracks that then get restored... Well, we know about it and it's not good for their future reports.

Hopefully this is something that is constantly being assessed and something is being done to counter the false reports. So RL are aware of the problem it seems and have a plan of action in place that we arent aware of. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/wink.gif

The track was reported, reviewed, and removed from TC.

The 2 dolls/people that were on the bed upstairs is the reason why it was removed. If the creator removes those pieces then the track will be fine for sharing.

My latest track features a pentagram which is mostly accociated with satanism in the western world, thus it could be offensive to any other religion? ( not me, im agnostic, there all "just" symbols to me )

I think the reporting a track for being offensive is usless, 1 thing that is offensive to me could be totally acceptible to another, ure never going to keep everyone happy.

You should have an option to "report a user for being offensive" ie by abusing the game and releasing 5 tracks, each 3 secs long ...... flooding TC and ruining a part of the game that was ment to be a "highlight"

"Man of Steel" by Dr4g0nsFury has been down for about 3 days despite the fact that it is a Redlynx pick. "Subway" by Synapsis has also been gone for a few days.

I think there should be a sticky for reporting tracks that have been inappropriately removed from TC so that Redlynx can return them as fast as possible. Or Redlynx can just change the reporting system because it is ridiculously broken right now.

If people are going to report tracks for no reason, then doing so now means TC will not get worse. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/wink.gif

Also, tracks that have been reported are checked, typically, at least once a day. If it is a weekend, then it can be a bit longer.

My track "Red & Blue" has been removed for the 3rd time. I don't even sweat it anymore. I know someone at RL will eventually restore it lol. Still, it sucks that they can disappear so quickly and effortlessly.

I think it would be better if when someone marked a track as offensive, it shows up on RL's end in a list of reported tracks. Then if it truly has offensive content, it can be deleted from the server by a developer. If not, it can stay. I wonder if tracks can be protected against false claims if they are known to be good tracks.

Can just get rid of this stupid report track feature? What happened to the days where developers could say "We are not responsible for any conduct experienced while on Xbox Live"?

That generally applies to peoples actions while on xbox live and not user created content "advertised" within the game.

So for example, RL cant be held responsible for what someone SAYS over the mic on MP, but can be held responsible for allowing offensive content to be displayed within their game (like a track resembling genitalia).

I'm not saying any of the tracks mentioned are in that category, obviously, just trying to clarifying why a report option is available. Its the loophole allowing us to have user created content without RL having to vet every single track uploaded. Same for other games such as Forza.

"Removed" from the RL feed or removed from TC completely? The RL feeds are clearly having issues as there are less than 30 tracks in each feed, so if its only missing from there, that could be why.

Removed from TC completely. I saw that it was gone from the RL feed, then I double checked with a regular GT search. It is not available on TC at all. Maybe rather than immediate, blind removal, the system could be switched to removal after review? Same work, just less disruptive overall, and it neuters the incentive currently present to cause mischief (i.e. they report and it disappears immediately).

I like the idea that its removed immediately until its reviewed, then re-instated. BUT, once a track has been reviewed it cannot be reported again as it has been reviewed and approved.

Was just implying that it's obvious that tracks of extremely high difficulty will be reported in a state of rage rather than something actually offensive.

And just mentioned Subway and Execution's absence because it's been like 3 weeks already. And these are tracks that have already been reviewed.

It takes 1 second to push the offensive button, And three weeks or more to get your ( ALREADY FUHKIN REVIEWED ) non offensive tracks to get put back up.

Looks as if the trolls have won this battle, ( Nice system ) Oh well... Back to Tekken. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif

I concur. A track should be reviewed thoroughly if it is deemed offensive, enough to the point where it cannot be taken down unjustified again. It may take a little more time on the devs hands but would be provided better as a long term solution seeing that the majority of tracks being taken down are the same ones (usually in the highest rated trials feed).

Would it not be a good idea to have a system where you need to enter a description of the offensive material? This would help in all cases as it would help the devs find the offensive part of a track quicker and also prevent "rage reporting" on difficult tracks when the person reporting it can't specify any offensive content. This would also give the chance to display a message saying something like "falsely reported tracks will result in you being banned from Track Central" (or similar punishment). Yes there's some blood in it but that can't be it.
I also think its way to easy to use the offend option, i can do it without downloading the track.
I think it should be only available after completing the track.

Nope, I disagree. There are hundreds of thousands of players on Trials Evolution. All it takes is one ******* to go on a reporting spree. There are people that would do this just because they think its funny. Once they realize the track that they cant beat disapears with the touch of a button, they can get "revenge" on any track that defeats them. I got dozens of hate messages for my track "Just Give up", pretty damn vulgar ones at that. All from strangers. I'm pretty sure than anybody who has no problem cussing me out for a track I made would have no problem reporting a track that pissed them off.

Bottom line, the system is broken. Seriously needs revising.

Disagree as well, plenty of people do either their your friend or not, and by the way one friend filing a complaint isn't gonna get it removed, it takes a compilation of reports, probably half of what a friends list but don't take my word for that part lets ask shifty!

Anyone interested in the upcoming Far Cry 3 should also see if they have this option in place before building anything you care about. Not one, But... All 8 of my maps were removed from playability in Far Cry 2 due to this fantastic feature, Over 5 months worth of work gone at the touch of a button.

Adding Ubisoft to my boycott list along with Capcom. This obviously moronic feature has ruined so many games. Ratings systems in general put a damper on games like EA Skate as well, But at least they weren't dumb enough to leave the creations existence up to the general public.

http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_evil.gif
Its madness that its so easy to report a track and have it removed from TC without good reason. I think my idea would sort the problem out perfectly. There at least needs to be some kind of warning against falsely submitting tracks.
I wonder what percentage of people reporting a track actually completed it? And also how old they are? My guess is it would be mostly children/teenagers who couldn't complete the track. I really hope its not other track builders jealous of someone else's talent.

I have many track builders on my FL and personally, i dont believe ANY of them would do this sort of thing, They all realise exactly how much time and effort it takes to produce a good track.

it's cuz it's me and skum

Or maybe it had to do with my runs on them. I remember playin each one of them when they were on the highest rated feed then every one ive completed was gone within 2 days. Inferno 2 was taken down as soon as i got my 34 sec run on it a few days ago. Im bein trolled. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

Im not trying to downplay how crappy this whole offensive option is, just asking, do they have a system in place so you cant just re-upload the same track after it's been removed, or would you have to change the name and modify it slightly? Just asking because ive been spending months making a few tracks in my limited free time, and when i get them right i want to upload them, and id hate to see my time wasted.

What I don't get is that my Gigacross track was in Redlynx picks, therefore it must have already been played by people at redlynx and effectively reviewed, yet it's been gone almost 2 weeks now...
I saw it there last night, but after watching the Will It Donkey I really wanted to try Activate!... alas, it seems to be missing from your list of hosted tracks.

WTF, Redlynx? Is this you, or is this Microsoft?

RL have stated that they are aware of this problem and are trying their best to correct it. I'm sure once they have any more info on it they will let us know.

Edit: Found the post I was meaning....

We are aware of the issue with Track Central submissions that adhere to the content guidelines being removed from Track Central. We are working with Microsoft to address this issue and hope to have more info soon. Please rest assured that tracks that do not contain offensive material will be restored as soon as possible, and have not been permanently removed from Track Central. Thank you for your patience.

It was in this thread http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/858712-Tracks-removed

where it also states that RL picks can currently be reinstated using a workaround, but that is all that can be reinstated for the moment. Hence gigacross being back while Activate! currently isnt.

there's a few ways that this problem can be resolved and if redlynx are working with microsoft to try and fix it im sure that they will find a way.

just my thoughts -

1) have a warning pop up msg that tells people of online punishment should thay continue and be found to be falsely implying offensive tracks.

2) have the "option to report offensive content" removed once the track has had the all clear and has been reinstalled back into track central (preventing repetitive track removal).

3) Only remove a track once it has been checked over and not just simply at the hands of jealous children.

4) Remove the option all together lol.

4) Remove the option all together lol.

In order to allow "unchecked" user content in a game, a report option is essentially compulsory as a way of protecting the companies from any blowback from inappropriate content as I believe it.

I feel option 2 is the best one. Once a track is reported it is removed, reviewed and if it is deemed appropriate and reinstated then its report option is greyed out and unavailble from that point on.

With option 3, it leaves the chance that an inappropriate track will remain available until such time that it can be reviewed. Better that it is immediately removed and reviewed as soon as possible imo, provided this is done within an acceptable timeframe.

As for option 1, screw that. Just ban anyone from tc if they have reported three tracks in a row incorrectly. No warnings, just punishment! http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

fully agree with everything you just said, option 2 seems the best option, its become like a game for some people now to just keep removing tracks, come on redlynx lets put a stop to their fun, they take away our games now lets take away theirs. they will soon stop doing this once they see that the tracks they have removed are back with no offensive option available

All great suggestions in this thread.

Just to make clear the definition of 'offensive'. We have an objective scale to measure this by which is the Pegi and ESRB ratings.

[list:3m6ir5o2]According to ESRB 10+ and PEGI 12+ Trials Evolution can have:

[*:3m6ir5o2] cartoon, fantasy or mild violence, mild language, and/or minimal suggestive themes (ESRB 10+)[/*:m:3m6ir5o2]
[*:3m6ir5o2] graphic violence towards fantasy characters, non-graphic violence towards humans or animals, explicit sexual descriptions or images (nude people in a sexual context, although not necessarily explicit in content), and mild swearing (PEGI 12+)[/*:m:3m6ir5o2][/list:u:3m6ir5o2]

[list:3m6ir5o2]According to ESRB 10+ and PEGI 12+ Trials Evolution can not have:

[*:3m6ir5o2] simulated gambling and/or infrequent use of strong language, intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language, violence showing graphic and detailed depictions of brutality, death or injury to unrealistic humans or animals, glamorization of crime, use of illegal drugs, encouragement of the use of tobacco or alcohol, sexual expletives or blasphemy, erotic or sexual nudity, sexual intercourse without visible genitals, prolonged scenes of intense violence (ESRB Teen, Mature, Adults Only)[/*:m:3m6ir5o2]
[*:3m6ir5o2] graphic, detailed and sustained violence towards realistic humans or animals (including dismemberment, torture, massive blood and gore, sadism and other types of gross violence), violence towards vulnerable or defenseless humans, sexual activity with visible genital organs, sexual violence or threats (including rape), detailed descriptions of techniques that could be used in criminal offences, glamorization of the use of illegal drugs, and disparaging or stereotypical portrayals of ethnic, religious, nationalistic or other likely stereotypes which may encourage hatred by depiction (ESRB 16 up and 18 up) [/*:m:3m6ir5o2][/list:u:3m6ir5o2]

At least there is no disqualifier for content which "causes frustration due to extreme difficulty"! I think swastikas and pentagrams might be fine too. It seems fairly restrictive but at least this gives content creators a measure for their creativity and some borderlines.

my track Stone Cold has been removed again http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif please can i have it reinstalled?

i remember a while back redlynx said they were looking into this ongoing problem and that they DID care about this issue, is anything in the planning for a fix to this situation or has it been forgotten about? we have offered many solutions to the problem surely its about time something was done to stop this

thank you redlynx for putting my track stone cold back up again but unfortunately it has vanished yet again, i think this is about the 8th time now that this particular track has been removed, it seems it goes back up for a month at the most before it gets taken down again.

Please can you put it back up for me devs and i'll be back in a month to request this again http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

on another note i think someone in particular is continuously doing this to me on purpose, the same track over and over again and it is right at the bottom of the feed now where people rarely even look yet somehow my track keeps getting stalked, is there not some way to maybe see whether its the same person doing this and do something about it? I told ANBA a while back now about someone who sent me many many msgs of sabotage threats to my tracks saying he had a whole bunch of friends who he has got to continuously play and rate all my tracks 1 stars, his name is/was eventfuleight and he also had another account called PlannedClub which he weaseled his way into my friends list with so he could keep tabs on me whenever i released a track, (he has admitted doing this). Im just thinking it is probably him that is continuously filing offense complaints on my tracks and im just wondering if you (Redlynx) can find out if it is and do something about it or is this just something i have to put with?

I think those who constantly abuse the reporting system should lose their ability to report tracks.

no, they should lose their right to play the game, period.,
along with the caught hackers.
or,
RL, can we have a shaming list that tells us all the names of these idiots.
addresses would be cool also, but thats probably too much to ask.

I still don't get why the master of puppets was removed. Personally didn't like the track but don't get why those dolls were offensive...

I also don't get how all tracks aren't removed as those things you CAN'T do I've seen in tracks all the time. (violence, dismemberment, all the awesome things that make the creative aspect of this game amazing)

IMHO I think graphic nudity/sexual things and dirty words I would maybe report as offensive.

I think I once reported a track cuz all it was was curse words built in the sky with jumps over a warehouse, pointless for pointless sake.

I do recall whoever made 'the teleporter' had a stupid finish when it faded to a shot with '***** near some barrels....also pointless. Made that track go from good to stupid right after the finish line...he did release an edited version he should have had in the first place. Didn't report this track though anything us it was good.

This is stuff I see a lot of the time. No complaints or anything. I love a lot of tracks I see made, some include a lot of blood, gore, violence. Yet these are things were not allowed to make and post......I guess it's okay until it's reported on right? It seems that's how it works.

like crashing and having a red water splash attached to the rider.

It would be nice to get a thorough description from RL about what type of borderline offensive, violent, or risqué content is and is not allowed. There are tons of tracks depicting brutal, bloody mutilation of the rider, or other stuff. I would imagine that sort of stuff is too much for this game's rating, but they're still there, so perhaps not?(I personally don't mind the pushing of the envelope, the game has an online content disclaimer, so unless it's balls out obscene, let it fly http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/smile.gif )

So what are the lines?

you must not like trials http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/razz.gif I agree 99% of the time I just play the track 1 time and go to the next 1, but that doesnt mean the track was bad. I pretty much enjoy all the top 30% of the best rated 48h. but you are pretty much saying that execution ( best rated track in TC ever ) is a ''shat'' track. maybe it's not your thing but the track is amazing. and if done right blood or gore can add so much to a track.

some people have a valid point by saying this shouldnt be allowed and thats not what im disagreeing with because it isnt an 18 game so i see their point, BUT your point is complete dribble, a track is a noob track because the track is badly made simple as that NOT because it has blood in it,
