so its gonna be here sooner or later http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif and my questions for the present and future track designers are these.

based on what little we know about the track editor in Evo has anybody already got plans laid out for future tracks? or any great ideas for tracks/skill games?. (that they don't mind sharing).

do you plan tracks in your heads? or write everything down? or just open the editor and see what happens?

i personally love the idea of a skill game with a flaming bike that has water checkpoints that extinguish the flamesas you go where the idea is to just get as far as you can or through as many checkpoints as you can.

It's kind of hard for me to come up with ideas. Normally I play other tracks, then try to find a theme I like. Then I normally go with that, and adjust a needed. The new editor will be extremely robust, so I figure that will be my kryptonite, until I get used to it.

Really looking forward to the game, but will settle for in depth video of the editor, for now. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

I usually just have one obstacle in my head. Occasionally I'll have just a vague theme. But mostly I just go in and see what happens. I expect everyone's minds to boggle at the new editor. 1500 objects + ground morphing = http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_question.gif ............. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_idea.gif

I wanna what kind of run down buildings I can come up with... One that is old and broken apart by hundreds of years of trees and vines taking over.

The editor will be the highlight of this game for me and this is what im most looking forward to.

When I build a track in THD I start off by shaping the blocks then ill just see where it goes. I never plan obstacles or themes, I just go through a cycle of build, test, adjust.

The Evo editor will allow me to pick a spot in the new map, already wonderfully designed, and start off with the driving line. It will be great not having having to work around the blocks, nor having make the track look good because these things will already be there for me to start with.

I can see many, many hours spent with this new editor if the many hours ive spent with the THD editor is anything to go by.

The editor sure will be amazing. And i think i might fall in love with it a bit more than i did in THD. I made around 8 tracks in THD then stopped, i realized i liked the editor alot more, the more i got to know how it worked! So will watch alot of tutorials to get me hyped!

How i normally start my tracks....
First i have to be inspired....Being it a track i play, or something i see throughout my day that creates a spark of imagination....I'll then base my track on this.
I never write anything down or plan a track to the end, i plan the start, then let my brain wonder and see wht it creates!

I just hope they bump up the 1,000 object limit!!!

I've been inspired by a lot of the artwork on http://rubysaturna.tumblr.com/, so I'll probably start there once I see what's in the new editor.
This one is my personal favorite: http://members.casema.nl/jessevandijk/finished/indigo_bottom_colour.jpg

In what way does that picture inspire you? I'm quite interested as i bet alot of people see that picture very differently.
The way i see it, it would be a dark, gloomy peaceful track (Preferably medium-hard difficulty) with also alot of lighting in some area's despite it being dark?

I was thinking of a track with lots of multiple paths, with jumps over crumbling rooftops, going in and out of buildings with window views of the city lights far off in the distance, and riding along narrow streets and rickety boardwalks high above the ground. The driving line would be lit by street lamps, strings of hanging lanterns, and light from nearby buildings.

I want to make a track from one of the games I'm currently playing Dungeon Defenders. I've also wanted to make a track from Split Second for the longest time. With all the advanced things in Evo, I will be able to do it properly now http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif Along with an amazing remake of my frogger track!

i dont write anything down but i have a few ideas going around my head that i'll start working on almost straight away.

i could never design obstacles without being in the editor and if i did they would up being completely different anyway. i cant wait to get on it http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

sounds awesome nannerdw http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

i might even invest a little more time on the evo editor than i did with Thd, and i reckon a lot of others will to especially after everyone has the chance to see what the editor is capable of.

nice tracks on y/tube by the way.

you know you dont realy have to worry about the object limit.
with the minipulation of the ground its self you could make a track that lasts for well over an hour, even when played by the best of the best.
all you have to do is spiral the track from the outside in. then when you get to the middle just build up to the sky (save your object count for this part) and spiral from the inside out and repeat.
i do hope theres not a 30min limit on customs.

i wonder if water has flow, for water falls and stuff. i came up with a small idea, wher you hydroplain off of the water fall and over a river. or the river bed opens up into a cave creating a 2nd water fall, filling the bottom of the cave with water and you have to escape http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
i realy hope water has flow.

^I hope so. I doubt the waterfalls will have collision detection, but I hope there will be a way to make flowing bodies of water. I want to make some deadly river rapids with rocks jutting out of the water that you have to ride over http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

i dont think there is a set object limit, i think its just the 'area' limit to prevent lag. could be wrong.

I don't know if it's overflowing, or if it's a waterfall object, but you can clearly see what appears to be the water overflowing at the beginning of this ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ew3puvMMIqI ) track http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

EDIT plus there's that one track that has the water rising http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

It would be awesome to have flowing bodies of water but from the videos that are out it doesn't seem to be in the game. (At least the version that they let people play)

Example: Murdoc Loch PAX video- 3:30-3:35

- In my mind there seems to be an attempt at a river in the background but there is no rapids (white water) visible or flow.
- Maybe there is a certain degree or angle that the terrain has to be set at in order to gain the look of a river.

Even though it is not visible it still looks great. I am excited to manipulate the environment and try to create a nature scene as a track. Maybe something like a slot canyon. I am from the Northwest so i can get a lot of inspiration from what is around me. Really looking forward to this game.
