What makes game development in Finland unique and different? What do Rovio, RedLynx, and Remedy Entertainment have in common - besides starting with the letter "R"?
EDGE Magazine's Region Specific feature about Finland from their recent 'Back to Work' issue is now online and enjoyable for those of you who are not regular readers of the magazine.

Why is Finland so good at producing cutting-edge technology and development studios?

Tero Virtala, CEO of RedLynx: Thousands of young kids with development potential means there’s an excellent workforce for Finland. But I actually think there is one more reason dating back even further: because Finland as a nation, for some reason, has been a very technology-oriented society for a long time. Our schooling system is good, but it also focuses a lot on technical subjects like maths, physics and computer sciences. Every one of us here was bought computers when we were small; our parents had no idea if those computers could be used for anything, but it was new technology so the feeling was that kids should have them in case they might turn out to be beneficial later!

Enjoy it here (http://www.next-gen.biz/features/region-specific-finland)! Be sure to check out the Roundtable discussion and the RedLynx studio profile, though there is no coverage of Trials Evolution, since the game was not announced at the time they were here.

And it was fun trying to keep them out of the Evo development rooms on the day they visited.... "Cannibal Shogun, could you close door please. Cannibal, the door please. Cannibal - no, no, don't eat my leg! Argh!

Video game companies should slam schools for not focusing on the development of art. But hey, no one listens to me http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
